CRASH

(1996, Canada)

DIRECTED BY: David Cronenberg.

Canadian filmmaker Cronenberg returns in his latest feature. Its based on a book by J.G Ballard. The unrated version provides a lot of softcore sex similar to those Greggory Hippytoyle films. Cronenberg stirred up a lot of controversy with this film and it even had a tough time getting released in the UK. It won a Cannes film festival award for being daring and original. All that I can say is that my final verdict is quite grim. Its obvious that Cronenberg's glory days of filmmaking(Videodrome, Rabid, Shivers, The Brood) are over and have been for quite some time.

I'll sum this film up by saying it is complete rubbish. watch an accident video if you want to see car crashes and watch a low budget softcore sex film for, well sex. This is just oddball material. Here's the plot summary which isn't much. Fella gets in a car crash, meets wife of dead victim. Starts exploring sick desires with other people that have the same interest. The ending simply put is dumb and the scene where the horny crash clan are lottering around a fresh car crash and its victims is just plain unfun. I can finally say that I'm no longer a Cronenberg fan.
