FACE/OFF
(1997, USA)
DIRECTED BY: John Woo.
John Woo's third American Film is a step up from Broken Arrow but on a whole it fails to deliver. I was very disappointed with this film as I had high expectations for it but like a hell of a lot of other films they never fullfill expectations so your better off not having any. It seems like Woo has now done all he can with the action genre and is repeating himself. Sure the story is a bit different but come on. Even braindead action fans who couldn't care less about characters or plot may find themselves disliking this.
Sure it delivers the goods action wise with guns blazing but a long drawn out two and a half hours is far too long for this type of film in its type of genre. Towards the end of the film I didn't care who died, I just wanted the film to end. As for story goes its the ol' face switcheroo as detective John Travolta takes on the face of Madman Nicolas Cage to put an end to his evil plans. Naturally along the way Cage gets Travolta's face and things get way out of hand (and unbelievable). I'll take the good old days of The Killer, Hard Boiled and Bullet In The Head anyday.
