FIGHT FOR YOUR LIFE
ALSO KNOWN AS: I Hate Your Guts.
(1979, USA)
DIRECTED BY: Robert A. Endelson.
STARRING: William Sanderson, Robert Judd, Leia Small.
All hail one of the most politically incorrect movies of all time. This suspense/revenge film now ranks up there as one of my favorites with most of the credit going to lead actor Willy Sanderson from Newheart fame (this is ma brother Daryl and ma otha brotha Daryl). Sanderson plays an escaped convict who along with two others take a family of black folks hostage.
It may not sound like much but the secret lies in the dialogue and Sanderson's racist redneck white trash performance. This film is not one to screen for your ethnically balanced culture class or if you find yourself the only honkey in a room full of black people. The dialogue is the kind of stuff you don't want to be going around quoting out in public.
Despite the racism in it, the film sends us a strong message about what causes racism and the ignorance that breeds it. Fight For Your Life tries to achieve a powerful message but unfortunately during the time it was made in some instances blacks are stereotyped. Go out of your way to track this one down, a real cool flick.
