FLY II, THE
(1989, USA)
DIRECTED BY: Chris Wala's.
Effects man Wala's gets his chance to tone his directorial skills in this watchable sequel to Cronenberg's original. It's basically the first over again but this time with a happy ending and the offspring of Goldblum's character Brundle being played by a young Eric Stoltz
Stoltz grows up as a normal kid in a lab environment until he gets older. the company taking care of him never reveals to Stoltz that he will eventually turn into a giant fly. Naturally he does but unlike the original he only kills the bad guys. He then uses the same teleport chambers from the first with the help of a human specimen to transform back.
Wala's shows he is a competent director and his make-up and fly creature look very good but are not as effective as the first of course. Most of the gore in the film is towards the end like the original. As always the film cannot capture the same effect as the original but as sequels go this isn't too bad.
