FRIGHT NIGHT
(1985)
DIRECTED BYTom Holland.
Remember all those creature features that had goofy hosts and showed cheesy horror movies. Well Tim Holland does and uses this theme for his vampire movie. A curios teen spies on his new neighbor, who has a nack for bringing home the slutiest and most exotic woman, yet we never see them leave. Of course no one believes his stories and when he confronts the vampire, played by Chris Sarandon, he is again dismissed. So he turns to Horror has been Roddy McDowell who at first scoffs his story but then later confronts the menace. Frightnight was a welcome change from the usual gore fliks, great actors and some great FX turn this simple vampire movie into an exciting show with a great climax. Good nod to character geek Stephen Geoffrey's who plays his best friend. Good show!

FRIGHT NIGHT I & II
(1985, 1989, USA)
DIRECTED BY: Tom Holland, Tommy Lee Wallace.
A couple of top notch comedic horror vampire yarns. The first has a young boy who believes his next door neighbor (Chris Sarandon) is a bloodsucker but nobody believes him. He enlists the help of a TV horror show host (Roddy McDowell) to snuff out the Nocturnal feeders. This film is very light hearted but it can still splash the gore around especially during the conclusion when the vampires fight the vampire hunters. Great show stopping gore effects and lots of wit to go with it.
The sequel is able to hold up to the original but its almost like a remake of sorts. It has the sister of Sarandons vampire character from the first out for revenge against the kid who did away with him. The original cast returns except for those killed off. Another battle is waged leading to yet another show stopping finale of effects. Check out the guy who eats bugs and what ends up happening to him, so that's what undigested bugs look like! Get them both at the same time for full enjoyment.
