FUNERAL, THE
(1996, USA)
DIRECTED BY: Abel Ferrara.
Mob film that brings a whole family together over the death of a brother. Chris Penn and Christopher Walken are the remaining kin of their dead brother. A funeral and family meeting are held. The dead brother is given a background story of his life which takes up most of the story while the other half is Walken tracking down who killed their brother.
Ferrara seems to be making some very entertaining stuff since his debut with Driller Killer. Bad Lieutenant was also very enjoyable. This film makes me want to seek out more of his work (excluding the updated Body Snatchers). His films seem to have a very cold and cruel feeling. The characters are never likable and the ending is always downbeat (something that I love, I might add). This is no exception.
