GODFATHER, THE

(1972, USA)

DIRECTED BY: Francis Ford Coppola.

It is impossible not to mention this film when you talk about gangster pictures. This is the ultimate crime drama. An unbelievably superior performance by Marlon Brando who looks like he was told to hold his face in a particular position throughout his role in the film. Al Pacino in his first big role delivers his best talent and charm.

The movie has the Corleone family and their struggles to compete with other mob families. So much classic dialogue, the classy feel of the film not to mention the old Italian style music and typical mafia stereotypes, yep this one started it all. Almost flawless and very realistic to the brim. Despite the length you'll find that you really get into the film when you start watching it. Lets not forget the classic horses head in the bed scene and the gory demise of sonny (James Caan). Film also has Robert Duvall as the family adviser/lawyer and John Cazale as burnout brother Fredo. Exceptional film, very well done.
