I KNOW WHAT YOU DID LAST SUMMER

(1997, USA)

I actually decided seeing this knowing all too well it wasn't going to add up to much except the ridiculous box office price I had to pay to get in. Well what we have here is an attempt to bring back the slasher genre but with the lack of gratuitous nudity and gore is that possible? As the story goes four young people with their bright futures ahead of them run over a guy on the July 4th weekend and from there on in they keep it a secret and it affects their future aspirations.

Once they all meet up in their home town again in the near future on another fourth of July the trouble begins. Scary and not so scary messages are received from the unknown assailant before he moves in for the kill. The fisherman from hell dressed in a slicker hooks a number of patrons to death but nothing but a cool neck gouging scene is shown. Some good can be had though but on home video I don't know if this would have the same effect. The idea is far from original. One chase scene is directly taken from Halloween and most of the films direction goes downhill fast like the cop and the guy on the balcony who is killed. I liked it a bit since I haven't seen a new slasher film in awhile. The ending is good and not happy for a change.
