"It can destroy a city......and perhaps the world!"
Castellari strikes again with this piece of Italian action cheese. This time "The Handsome" Erik Estrada from the TV show "Chips" plays the lead role as a tough cop out to stop a madman (Thomas Moore) from blowing things up and melting people. One thing must be said, Lightblast never fails to be entertaining cause the action is nonstop throughout and it never lets up. Were talking car chases, shoot-outs and explosions galore not to mention the funny looking scenes of people melting.
Moore has in his possession some sort of futuristic death ray which can supposedly destroy the world (in the movie it manages to get an airstrip and a booth at the race track, not too spectacular if you ask me). Lightblast has all of Castellari's usual trademarks including the slow motion scenes and in this one he isn't afraid to show a little blood ( guys are shot in the head and throat). The bottom line is Lightblast is a must for Castellari completists (Mike Martinez of Aylmer's Grisly Grimy Page Of Unspeakable Horrors for instance) and it can take up an hour or more of your miserable life. It's a standard action film with some highlights here and there, check it out.
