LOST WORLD: JURASSIC PARK, THE
(1997, USA)
DIRECTED BY: Steven Spielberg.
Spielberg must have really rolled in the doe with this one. His sequal to Jurassic Park which was also based on Michael Crichtons which this one is also based on(movie studios don't seem to have any good ideas these days). This sequal picks up after the first with Jeff Goldblum now looked upon as crazy for his dinosaur stories who is again recruited to go to another untouched dinosaur site.
When they do arrive (Goldblum and
crew) they encounter his girlfriend whom
has been already on the island for a couple of days.
Goldblum's girl has a dangerous
encounter with a pack of Stegasaurouses because she was petting one of the babies. A little
while later she gives a big
lecture(one stupid point in the film) about
how everyone should be very careful
concerning what they do and that they should just observe the
dinosaurs and not interact with them after
she just did the exact opposite of
what she said(nice movie writing, is her character a hypocrite at heart?).
The story is shit folks and the cast except for Goldblum at times mind you stinks. The computer graffic dinosaurs, special effects and eyepopping stunts are just that, eyepopping. All of these things are what make the movie worthwhile. Theres a lot more of the dinosaurs dining on humans than the first but its not gory although it could be if it wanted to. When I seen this in the theatre there were a lot of parents with their little children and this is not a kids movie even if those jerk-offs at Micky D's are sell'in shitty plastic toys and meal deals with dinosaurs on them.
The little story there is in this film just totally falls apart at the end when the hunters leave the island with a captive Tranosaurous Rex on a cargo ship while the people are waiting for its arrival it shows up and crashes on through the whole waterfront. The people go on the ship to see what happened and they find the whole crew was killed but by what? and we never find out its so ridiculous since the dinosaur was down below with its baby. The ending has the Tranosaurous Rex raising havok in downtown San Francisco looking for its baby.
As for mentionable scenes there are a few, the truck dangling over the cliff is quite an amazing and suspenceful moment, when the dinosaurs play wishbone with a hapless victim they rip him in two piecies(nowthats some good eat'in), one of the hit-men from the movie Fargo(damn, just mentioning that word makes me want to seek out every copy of it and burn them all!) gets mangled off-screen by a gang of runt dinosaurs and catch the squished man under the dinosaurs claw bit as it is cool.
Not an outstanding film as it emphisizes
special effects over logic,story and
characters( I didn't like one person in this) like many movies these days of course and its too bleed'in
serious for a movie of
its type, come on now ladies and gents
lighten up for christs sake! This is
worth a watch and it will probably be one of the biggest films
of 97 but not my fav or anything I was'nt
too fond over the original either,
Oh well.
