MAD MAX

(1979, Australia)

DIRECTED BY: George Miller.

Futuristic and very strange view of the world as after an  apoclypse but only barren landscapes remain with a few civilizations still in tact. Interesting film with Mel Gibson along with the rest of the cast whom all have dubbed over voices.  Gibson plays one of the last lawmen who fights to restore order from the crazy gangs which inhabit the terrain.  The cops fight to restore order and still guilty crimminals get off with the help of asshole lawyers, nothing changes not even in the future I guess!

One of Gibsons cop pals are killed and it affects him so he decides to go for a little vacation with the family.  His wife meets a vicious biker gang and they run over her and her child.  Gibson goes on a
mission of revenge to snuff out all of the bikers.

This film is good and a genre definer for action films but it is very slow in parts.  The beginning where there is a really magnificant chase scene and lots of excellent stunt car crashes is a high point but is in
between is a blur except when Gibsons family is offed.  Towards the ending when Gibson is after the gang, these scenes are great and very intense.  Theres not really any climatic battle scene at the end which I was expecting.

Gibson co-directed with  Miller in this.  A good film indeed but not as pleasing as the explosive sequal The Road Warrior.
