MEET THE FEEBLES

(1989, Austrailia)

DIRECTED BY: Peter Jackson.

This is definetly one of the most bizarre and original films of its kind. Like the many adds and descriptions I've read for this film, they're all true. You rather love this or hate it. Its one of those films where no one will proably ever go into this kind of territory again. Jackson must have been experimenting with different hallucinogens each night while making this film. A sick spin on the muppets is shown in this providing that anyone or anything can be imitated or humiliated.

We have a rabbit which thinks he has a deadly STD but really he has a bad case of small pox. A hippo which is the star of the feebles show, she makes S&M films in her spare time for a sleezy rat. A reptilian vietnam vet who is a drug addict, he does a knife throwing show and occaisonally misses. A pesky fly which delves into extortion. A kind ol worm which is a stage hand. A fox which sings a tune called sodomy(hilarious moment). A porcupine which has a crush on a poodle. The owner of the show is a drug dealing, wife cheating Walrus. An elephant which is a gigelo and tons of other zany characters fill the line up.

We get a glimpse into their lives before the hippo goes on a rampage and shoots them all down except for the likable characters. Very funny and very twisted. The S&M scenes, walrus vomiting on the golf course, elephant taking a leak, the thing with the big honker sniffing cocaine, The walrus banging a fox , the hippo trying to comit suicide and the vietnam vet naming out different drugs. Its all here and something to see indeed. Check out the tribute to The Deer Hunter in the reptiles Vietnam flashback scenes.

MEET THE FEEBLES

(1989, Austrailia)

DIRECTED BY: Peter Jackson

Imagine what kind of film would offend John Waters, if ever their is such film then I would feel Meet the Feebles would be in the ballpark. Peter Jackson directs this wild and unique film which features Muppet style characters and puts them into most un-muppet like situations. The film also features puppets that are not quite a sweet as their muppet brethren and seem to be Jim Henson's worst nightmare come true. The Meet The Feeble Variety Hour is the most popular show in town and the producer Bletch the Walrus is looking forward to the shows television premiere. Unfortunately his over weight wife Heidi the Hippo discovers him cheating on their marriage and turns to food for relief. Bletch also manages a XXX porn studio on the side. His right hand Trevor the Rat deals drugs and sounds like Peter Lorre, star Harry the Hare discovers he has an STD and begins to fall apart, much to the delight of a sleazy house fly tabloid reporter, Sebastian the Fox sings a song about Sodomy and Wynard the Frog has Vietnam flashbacks and a heroin habit. All of this of course is putting the premiere show in jeopardy as Bletch tries to get Heidi to sing and replace her at the same time. Amid all this decadence we have a love story budding between two young performers, unfortunately Trevor tries to exploit the poor actress by turning her into a drug addict and porn star. The wild finale turns into a blood bath as Heidi goes postal in an act of final revenge on her adulterous husband. As with many of Peter Jackson's productions what you have is a wild series of grotesque manners, obscene language and enough offensive material to make everybody cringe. Not for everyone as this film is enough to make most viewers gag, but for those who enjoy it you will get one of Jackson's most outrageous and unrestrained cinematic efforts.
