MIMIC
(1997, USA)
What was done in Alien, Species and recently in The Relic is here in somewhat of a different way. Your usual run of the mill scares, abscence of good ol gore and the conclusion just had me laughing. The way things turned out in this everyone should have died and my friend whom I seen it with agreed. In his own words "wouldn't that just turn yer guts". This isn't an awful movie as the creatures looked cool (Rob Bottin was responsible) but I've just seen it all done before much like a Steven Seagal or Van Damme film. Something a lot more original would have helped.
Mira Sorvino plays an insect scientist trying to find a cure for a childrens disease. She created a species of bugs for an experiment which she thought they disposed of but they have actually evolved and mated creatng little killer menaces. The head female and male are big and have the ability to take the shape of humans which they use for food. The only way to destroy them is to stop the head male. The scene where the cast are stuck in the creatures lair and must spread alien guts over themselves to blend in is pretty unique. The bland attempt at humor having Charles Dutton as an ignorant, loud and obnoxious black cop fails hideously, I was hoping the aliens would kill him first he pissed me off that much.
Not bad, watch out for those ceiling turds though
