NEW NIGHTMARE

(1994, USA)

DIRECTED BY: Wes Craven.

Definitely one of the best and more recent horror releases of the nineties. Better than Jason Goes To Hell and a HELL of a lot better than Scream. Craven unleashes a most original story premise and evolves into some very genuine scares, some gore, good special effects in general besides gore and just a film fans will enjoy. This is definitely the best Nightmare film besides the original. All of the characters play themselves as Heather Langenkamp and her son battle an unknown presence that turns out to be a very real Freddy remarking to Langenkamp "miss me" as he makes his first real appearance in the film.

Lots of great factors to be looking out for when you watch the film like the script that Craven is writing himself in the movie and how it follows what is going on and what is going to happen next. Also you should be able to notice how this film cleverly re-enacts the first. Freddy himself looks better than ever in design and still has some great lines "hey Dillon ever play skin the cat?" or when remarking to Langenkamp while he has her face down in a pile of snakes "pick a pet for the rugrat bitch" and lastly "come here kiddie got some gingerbread for ya!"

My only complaint and its not really about the movie. WHY THE HELL is Freddy wearing tight ass leather pants!? eighties era glam metal dude. This film is VERY original showing that Craven is one of the best horror directors still on the go. Too bad he messed up on Scream (not money wise, integrity wise. He made a load of money off of it for sure) since it could have been a good movie if not treated like a generation X horror film joke, hey I liked the first 10 minutes. This is a must see for all horror fans.
