NIGHTMARE CONCERT
ALSO KNOWN AS: Cat In The Brain.
(Italy, 1993)
DIRECTED BY: Lucio Fulci.
Fulci's most recent gore film before his demise. It's quite strange since Fulci himself stars in it. I've heard he thought of the idea for the film after viewing Wes Cravens New Nightmare. the movie's plot is not really a whole lot except Fulci thinking he's going mad. He goes to see a psychotic psychiatrist (try that one on for size!) who hypnotizes Fulci making him believe that the he commits (the psychiatrist) are done by Fulci. Fulci goes through realms of agony and confusion as all he see's around him are hallucinations of murders rotting bodies.
What does work well in the film is the gore which there is loads of. There's scenes from some of his other films like Touch Of Death where a woman's head is brutally beat to a gory pulp, a chainsaw dismemberment and decapitation, a face pushed through a window, gruesome knifings, a cat feasting on guts, Fulci running over some poor sap into a mangled pile of roadkill, a cool body deterioration and loads of more gore delights. Some really strange scenes in this including one where Fulci goes medieval on some reporter's asses thinking he is on the movie set shooting an orgy (shoot it! shoot it all!). The ending is probably the best (and happiest) I've seen in a Fulci film and it actually made sense for a change. Another gory nail in the coffin.
