- Behind the Scenes
KNOCK OFF is a wild action thriller that brings together a dream team of creative elements. Action superstar Jean-Claude Van Damme stars, with Rob Schneider, Lela Rochon and Paul Sorvino rounding out the cast. The film was written by one of the most successful action screenwriters ever, Steven E. de Souza
, whose other credits include 48HRS., Die Hard and Die Hard 2. KNOCK OFF also re-teams producer Nansun Shi with renowned Hong Kong director Tsui Hark, who is widely regarded as the pioneer of the Hong Kong action film genre that has become a worldwide phenomenon. Director Hark's seminal films have served as the inspiration for directors John Woo and Ringo Lam.
Jean-Claude Van Damme hangs from the side of a rooftop in Tokwawan, Kowloon. As the martial arts superstar dangles on the edge of danger, acclaimed director
Tsui Hark shouts out directions for the climactic scene in his native Cantonese tongue. On another part of the set, above the roar of planes landing at nearby Kai Tak International Airport, actors Rob Schneider and Paul Sorvino run lines for a confrontational scene. Smells of fresh produce and dim-sum and an ever-present hum of activity fill the hot, humid air. The nearly 100 members of the cast and mostly local Chinese crew have begun shooting Knock Off on none other than the provocative island of Hong Kong.
