Captain
Ron was directed by Tom Eberhardt. The film was released on September
18th, 1992. It made 4.9 million dollars on its opening weekend. It's total
U.S. gross is 22.5 million dollars.
Kurt Russell reunites with Disney (Disney's Touchstone Pictures). The last time he was involved with Disney was for the animated movie The Fox & the Hound, a 1981 film for which he exercised his voice talent. The film was a medium hit at the box office. It is a very funny movie!
Russell plays Ron, a captain who is hired by Martin Short (they are good friends in real life). Martin hire's Ron to bring back a boat that was left on his Uncle's will. Ron teaches them how to sail from a tropical island all the way to the United States, where they want to sell their boat. As the adventure goes on Martin Short notices that his children are more fond of Captain Ron than their own father. All kinds of incidents occur and Martin's jealousy towards Ron increases. In the end Captain Ron and Martin Short save the family from the Cuban Pirates.
Kurt Russell's character Captain Ron is similar to Snake Plissken (from
the Escape series). Anyway, Ron is an interesting character and works well
for a comedy. Martin Short does a good job at his role. It's a fun film
to watch, especially for children. It has a lot of good laughs, and I liked
it. I think it's a great film for people who like water and sailing (like
me). I think Captain Ron deserves at least a 7 out of 10.
