Malcom Anderson, Miami Journal reporter, and his girlfriend Christine are sucked into a gut-wrenching nightmare of crime. The "Numbers Killer" takes Malcolm on his trail of murder. Malcolm, ambitious reporter, becomes the only link between this madman and the police.
Malcolm unwittingly surrenders to the killer's lure as gradually journalistic ambition overpowers journalistic responsibility. It is a deadly miscalculation.
The shrewd killer dangles Malcolm on his string. Both Malcolm and Christine's lives are turned upside down as the terror builds. The tension and suspense boil as furiously as the mean season in Miami. Will Christine be another number on the numbers killer's list? The Mean Season is an amazingly intense thriller from the gifted director of The Grey Fox, Phillip Borsos. The story is based on the experiences of Florida crime reporter John Katzenbach. I like how the director uses the forces and fury of nature to reflect the tensions which occur between the characters. I found this imagery to be very effective. Kurt Russell plays a realistic character, and as you are watching his character go through certain conflicts, you are deeply involved in what the character is experiencing. The way his character interacts with others seems very realistic. He acts just like anyone else would under those circumstances. The film is very suspenseful, intense, powerful, realistic, and visually astonishing. I give it a 10 out of 10.
