On Oscar night, "Gone With The Wind" became the Academy's biggest winner ever, winning eight awards. Honors went to the film, Vivien Leigh, supporting actress Hattie McDaniel, director Victor Fleming, and adaptor Sidney Howard, along with cinematography, interior decoration and editing. David Selznick also received the Irving G. Thalberg Award as the year's outstanding producer.
