Northfield

Tim Thompson's driveintheatre site has a paragraph on the Northfield, a drive-in reportedly located half in Massachusetts and half in New Hampshire. "You walk in the snack bar in one state and out in the other!" reports contributor Mike Guyette.

I had to find this place on a map, and I was a little disappointed. Unless the place has since expanded, or the border has since been redrawn, on my map it lies completely in New Hampsire right on the state line. It doesn't seem to have been twinned recently, as a recent advertisement for this place, as a single screen, appears on page 147 in Don and Susan Sanders' The American Drive-In Theater. Here they say that fifteen acres of the theater are located in New Hampshire and one acre lies in Massachusetts. Perhaps it's the ticket booth that lies south of New Hampshire

By the way, according to this information, the Northfield is the theater featured in the movie The Cider House Rules. The movie is set during World War II, but the theater has a wide screen and in-car speakers with volume control, innovations that weren't wide-spread until after the war.
