Born on July 30 in sunny Encino, CA, Lisa Kudrow, who suffers from terrible migraines, intended to follow in her father's footsteps (he's an authority on headache research) and pursue a career in the biological sciences. Lisa graduated from Vassar College with a Bachelor of Science in biology. Her plans for a career in research were cut short, however, in part by the inspiration of one of her brother's friends, Jon Lovitz. Lovitz encouraged Lisa to audition for The Groundlings, an improvisational theatre group in Los Angeles. Initially turned down for her lack of experience, she joined an improvisational class in which she met, and subsequently dated, Conan O'Brien. Her effort paid off and eventually Lisa was accepted into The Groundlings.
Not long after, Lisa landed the role of space-case waitress Ursula on the Paul Reiser/Helen Hunt comedy Mad About You. She has also frequented Cheers where she can be seen sporting her natural brunette locks and guested on both Coach and Newhart.
When she's not busy strumming her guitar in Central Perk as the New Age beauty Phoebe Buffay on Friends, for which she received an Emmy nomination for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series, Lisa can be found performing improv with both The Groundlings and The Transformers. Contrary to tabloid reports, Lisa is not a "pool shark." Although she played pool while growing up, she says that information was just given out in early biographies for filler.
The only Friend sporting a wedding band, Lisa married a French businessman named Michael early last summer. They recited their vows in both English and French, which, incidentally, Lisa doesn't speak.
