Here are some pics, long story below...

My hospital stay lasted for
five days. I went in on Tuesday, September 28,1999. I was
released on Sunday. I met some wonderful ladies in the
hospital who were also having GBP(gastric bypass).
Cheyenne, Kimara and Fran. Good Luck to you all!

The first night after surgery
was my pure hell on earth. I was fighting when I woke up
from the anesthesia and I had a nurse who wasn't very
compasionate. I was panicking and thought I was going to
suffocate to death. The night in the step down room wasn't
any better. I wasn't being given anywhere near enough
morphine via the PCA. I was in constant pain the entire
time. I cried most all of the night.
The next morning I was moved to
a regular room. I felt sorry for my roommate as I was
whinning and crying most of the time. I called Dr G. and
told him I needed more pain meds. He came over and took
care of it. The next morning I awoke to find my catheter
and my PCA being taken away. Phase II of hell began right
then. I didn't have any help from any of the nurses
getting out of bed. Finally the moment I dreaded was here,
I had to go pee! I was trying to get up when my troupe of
angels came in. They helped me get up, I looked and felt
like hell. I think they understood.
Day three wasn't much better. I
managed to get myself out of bed and walk a bit. The
aides who come in to bathe me and change my room were
very nice and very helpful. I loved getting a sponge bath,
I thought I would hate it but when you are bedridden for
24hrs it feels great. They were very helpful.

I was really annoyed by all of
these surgical students/residents coming in every morning
poking me looking me over and then talking about me like
I wasn't there. Some one needs to teach them some bedside
manners. I also got rid of my NG tube sometime on day two
or three, I can't remember. Dr G took it out himself, I
was glad to see him. Aside from him informing me how I
looked like a smurf due to all the blue dye that was ALL
OVER me from the leak test. Oh well they were my proof of
battle. We had a little chuckle.

The morning of Day 4 I demandad
a shower! I got one and boy did it feel good. The nurse
was hesitant because the aide on duty was a man. I didn't
care! I just said hey, "Are you a professional or
what?" They laughed and he said yes he was and I
said hey let's get to it! He was helpful without being in
my way. I appreciated that.
I was so glad to be getting out
of there on day 5 only problem was nobody else knew I was
leaving! Sue (Angle Supreme) came up to help me get out
of that place. I felt like I had been staying in the
Bates Motel. It took several hours to get out of there
let's just say that. The resident didn't know how to
write a script, I could make an entirely seperate page on
this and my nurse was a complete idiot. I finally had to
tell her to get away from me! I finally got out of there.

Fran was leaving at the same
time, she and her husband gave me a ride home. Susan got
me in and settled. I don't know how I would have made it
without her. Thanks Sue! I stayed in the apt for the next
several days. Sheryl came up to visit and walk me. I felt
pretty good. Sue visited regularly and fixed me some
vittels! I miss my view of the city and the rivers from
my 27t story balcony. I will remember this trip for the
rest of my life. I can't wait to get back to NYC!

Thanks to Susan, my Super Angel
on High, for the bear and the pics. She did so much for
me, I wouldn't have made it without her. My other angels
included: Karla, Stephanie, Leslie, Sheryl, Rita, Kimbers
and others. If I forgot you email me! Thanks for your
support and caring it meant so much to me being so far
from home! While you
are here, HEY SIGN MY GUEST BOOK!
