Donna Lewis Back With THE ONE

Jun 8, 1998

"I Could Be The One," the new single from Atlantic recording artist Donna Lewis has just shipped to multi-format radio outlets nationwide. The highly-anticipated track is Lewis's first self-penned release since 1996's smash single, "I Love You Always Forever," and RIAA platinum album, "NOW IN A MINUTE." Lewis's long-awaited second Atlantic album, "BLUE PLANET," will arrive in stores on July 14th. The Welsh-born singer/songwriter/multi-instrumentalist spent much of late '97 and early '98 recording "BLUE PLANET" at her new home studio in Dublin. Within the breadth of its musical and emotional diversity, the self-produced album displays Lewis's stunning growth as both an artist and a human being. Inspired by the pastoral landscape surrounding her Dublin residence, "BLUE PLANET" is marked by rich keyboard textures, atmospheric guitars, insidiously catchy drum loops, and Lewis's always-angelic vocalizing. The album exhibits a remarkable musical range, from the ebullient "I Could Be The One" to the sparse soul of "Falling" and the ethereal title track, through to the polyrhythmic funk of "Beauty and Wonder." A remarkably striking collection of sonic delights and touching moods, "BLUE PLANET" is sure to be one of 1998's greatest musical treats. With her entrance on the musical scene in 1996, Donna Lewis became one of the year's most exciting success stories. The Welsh-born singer/songwriter's Atlantic debut single, "I Love You Always Forever," broke an unprecedented number of U.S. airplay records on its way to RIAA gold certification. The song, a long-running #1 Billboard "Hot 100 Airplay" hit, reached the largest weekly audience ever monitored in the trade magazine's Broadcast Data Systems (BDS) era - 100 million (beating Donna's own previous record of 91 million, which had topped Mariah Carey's record of 89 million with "Dreamlover"). Among the Billboard airplay records broken by "I Love You Always Forever" were: it was the first ever to exceed one million airplay detections; it achieved the most airplay detections ever on the "Hot 100" (topping Celine Dion's "Because You Loved Me"); and garnered the most airplay detections at Top 40/Mainstream (topping the record set by Alanis Morissette's "Ironic"). The single also earned Billboard's Greatest Gainer/Airplay award for five consecutive weeks, making Lewis the first artist in the ten-year history of the award to reach that mark. On the strength of these remarkable achievements - along with the success of the "Without Love" follow-up single and the singer/songwriter/ producer's extensive touring and promotional itineraries - her "NOW IN MINUTE" Atlantic debut was certified RIAA platinum and paved the way for chart-topping success the world over. In 1997, Lewis's love affair with radio continued when she scored an impressive AC hit with her "At The Beginning" duet with Richard Marx. The Trevor Horn-produced single, from Atlantic's RIAA gold-certified "ANASTASIA: MUSIC FROM THE MOTION PICTURE" soundtrack album, was the format's #1 most-added track for two weeks, in addition to garnering extensive VH1 airplay.
