Peta Wilson, the 5'10", 26 year old actress, is a native of Australia.
She is the daughter of a retired warrant officer, Darcy Wilson, and a
caterer, Karlene White (they also have a son, Rob, 25, an Australian
army truck driver), she was born in Sydney but moved a dozen times before
she was 13. She was raised in Papau, New Guinea. While in New Guinea, she
caught a nine-month case of malaria in 1975. Seven years later, her
parents divorced. She is a champion sailor, and with her father and
brother she has recieved the title of Australian Champion Trailor Sailors.
She was also the youngest woman and best player on the Australian national
basketball team. She became a model in Europe, but she grew tired of being
judged by how she looked and was suffering from bouts of anorexia and
bulimia, so she packed up and moved to Los Angeles in 1991. She rented
a house with a girlfriend but a few months later she met film director
Damian Harris, and three months after that, they moved into a three-bedroom
Hollywood Hills house. She took acting classes and got various small parts
in movies and television shows. She is now playing her first major
television role, Nikita, on USA Network's La Femme Nikita. In Toronto,
where La Femme Nikita is filmed, she lives with her grandmother Elizabeth
in a rented loft. She asked her grandmother to move from Australia to
Toronto so she could be taken care of after her stressful 17-hour workdays.
She enjoys scuba diving, horseback riding, swimming, cricket, painting,
and gardening.
