Here are some questions I received from voters. The answers
may be of interest to everyone...
Question 1:
When I compare the number of voting forms cast in the current week to the
votes that were actually counted there's quite a difference...
How come?
Answer:
First of all there are scores of duplicate forms each week. People
sometimes press the "submit" button on the voting page more than once...
And then there's the fact that I'm very strict when it comes to counting
the votes. Votes that do not strictly comply with every single rule as
stipulated on the voting page get tossed without mercy!
For example if your e-mail adress is not listed, or incomplete, or if
you leave out your last name I will definitely NOT count your
vote!
Question2:
Is "voting by proxy" (one person casting a vote for himself and one or
several of his friends) allowed?
Answer:
No. Definitely NOT!!
I only accept votes that are cast by users who personnally visit the site
to vote. Someone who casts several votes in a row using several different
names and/or e-mail adresses will not get these votes past me! :-)
Question3:
I usually vote on Monday, before you update your Top 20...
For what week is my vote counted?
Answer:
The determining factor whether a vote will be counted for a certain
week or the following week is the time stamp on the form message I
receive from GeoCities Webmonitor not whether the site has already been
updated or not.
As soon as you press the "submit" button on the voting page the vote
is sent. Testing on my part has revealed that there is virtually
no delay. Seconds after your vote is sent it arives in my mailbox...
Now Geocities is located on the West Coast of the USA, so the
timestamp I mentioned above will read Los Angeles time
(Pacific Standard Time)...
Bottom line:
Vote 1, sent 23:58 (11.58 p.m) PST on a Sunday will count for week 1.
Vote 2, sent 4 minutes later at 00:02 (00:02 a.m) PST. (By now it's
Monday in L.A.) will count for week 2
