Vanessa Marcil was born in San Diego California, to a father with Portuguese and a mother with French background. She has 3 siblings. After initially moving to Anchorage, Alaska the family later returned to California, to settle down in Palm Desert. After high school, Vanessa began to study law. She later decided to pursue an acting career, and starred in stage plays like: "Pygmalion", "Mamet's Women", "The Miracle Worker", "Sweet Bird of Youth" and "Southern Rapture", a play directed by Peter Fonda.
Her breaktrough as an actress came when she landed the role of Brenda Barrett on General Hospital in 1992, a role she has continued to play to the current day.
She made her Motion Pictures debut as Nicolas Cage's girlfriend in the 1995 blockbuster hit, The Rock.
