The video for Butterfly was filmed in Beaufort, South Carolina... the same scene where a part of Forest Gump movie was shot.
Video is set in the forest and partially in a house, during the night or early in the morning. Mariah is wearing a white nightgown similar to the one from 'I Don't Wanna Cry' video. She is sleeping on a bed in a house and dreaming. A brown horse is running in the grass through the forest. Mariah wakes up and she sees the horse through the window... She runs downstairs into the grass, trying to catch it. There she finds the horse. We can see great sequences of running horses. Later Mariah rides the brown horse. The video closes up with a scene of Mariah sitting in a grass, crying.
The video has been co-directed by Mariah and it is again one of Mariah's best music videos. She found part of the ispiration in a weird dream that she had after taking sleeping pills. There, she was also chasing something and it got away over a barbed-wire. Mariah tried to follow, but she cut her finger. She's said that she didn't wanted to put blood in the video...
