Video: The Roof
Album: Butterfly
Published: Columbia 1997
Length: 05:34
Director: Mariah Carey & Diane Martel

Description:

The Roof is Mariah's third video from the Butterfly album. It was directed by Mariah and Diane Martel. The video is showing Mariah in a limousine, a hotel room and on the roof of the building. It starts with the scene in a limousine, where Mariah is wearing a short black dress and she has straight hair, dropping over her shoulders. Mariah is sitting on the back-sit in the dark limo, hugging herself and singing. She is thinking of the past and looking really sad and lonely... There are some cut scenes to Mariah walking up and down in the dark room. But then she goes to the roof. It's night time, so everything is in the dark, but behind her there are city lights sparkling in the distance. Then a man, Mariah was waiting for, comes and she hugs him gently and they seem to start kissing. Though the video doesn't actually show Mariah kissing the man. Afterwards the rain starts falling down... and Mariah stands wet on the roof. The video also cuts to some scenes of people dancing in the streets and it also shows some rappers (Mobb Deep).
Mariah has created pretty nice and professional video, confirming that she's also a pretty good director. The video goes very well with the song and it creates a special athmosphere. It is not indicent in any way, as some people would see it, but it is different than her early videos.
