A rather subdued and restrained comic gem for Mel, coming as it did
after his infinitely noisier and livelier Robin Hood: Men in Tights.
Leslie Nielsen (of Naked Gun fame) and Mel are a match made in comedy
heaven. The movie explores the serious theme of the need for man to
control his lusts and desires, which is, after all, the message in Bram
Stoker's classic horror novel. Peter Mcnicol is great. Some of the
jokes, though, fall flat, but I definitely recommend it. I give it 3
out of 4.

I liked this movie better than the previous Robin Hood: Men In Tights, but somehow it's not as good as the early Brooksworks. These later movies have been all out spoofs of just one particular movie, while the earlier films were spoofs of genres, which gave them a whole lot more laugh range. Mel's just suppressing himself by choosing too narrow a topic. But the movie's still hilarious and the sets are great. Watch for Mel's Wife (Anne Bancroft) as the Gypsy woman with the ominous waver in her voice. I give it 6 out of 10.
