U Drop Inn Art deco architecture at its finest in Shamrock, Texas. Sadly, it's just another abandoned business along Route 66. Blue Swallow Motel Beautiful old hotel in Tucumcari, N.M. The El Rancho Hotel Here you can see the lobby of this Rt.66 landmark. It's decorated with plenty of autographed pics of Hollywood stars of yesteryear, as well as antlers galore! Wigwam Village See our personal tee pee and the truckster in Arizona's finest motel Big Texan Steak Ranch Check out the live rattlesnakes at this yummy Amarillo, TX steakhouse. A must-see. SnoCap A great ice cream/burger joint along 66 in Arizona. Bob Waldmire Livin' in a van nowhere near a river. Sorry it's so small! Bob's Place Here is a photo of Bob Waldmire's "Route 66 Visitor's Center." If you travel the Mother Road, make this stop your first priority. Check out the meditation garden out front. Standin' On A Corner In Winslow, Arizona. The song is true! Spike's Home: Needles, CA The hottest place along the Route Cadillac Ranch Pretty Caddy's all in a row in a Texas field. The famous Rt.66 "art" landmark. Blue Sky in Seligman The birthplace of historic Route 66 Museum Club The AZ landmark The Open Road Going nowhere in Oklahoma. Most roads on the Route look exactly like this! Phillips 66 Station A "restored" gas pump. McLean, Texas Funks Grove Sirup Sign See the roadside sign for the famous Rt. 66 "sirup factory." Illinois Stretch Here's a photo of a stretch of old Route 66 through Illinois. The road is in really bad shape, but we drove it anyway. "Get Your Kicks" A makeshift sign along Rt. 66 in Oatman, AZ. |
Highway 666 Near Gallup, New Mexico sits the "Devil's Highway." Wall Drug Near the Badlands in South Dakota sits one of the wonders of the open road. South of the Border Here's Matt atop a faux sombrero-wearing dinosaur. South of the Border Sign Notice the large sombrero-shaped tower in the background. World's Largest Cheese See Wisconsin's self-proclaimed "Largest Cheese in the History of Mankind." This is only a huge replica cheese, however. The real cheese was eaten at the 1964 World's Fair. Booger Hollow Arkansas' own double-decker outhouse. Matt actually used it. It smelled really really bad! Elvis' Birthplace See the one room Mississippi house where the King was born. Old Faithful Watch the geyser spew at Yellowstone National Park. We got there just in time, right in the middle of a nice cold rain shower. Buffalo Bones At Yellowstone I came across this buffalo carcass when hiking in Yellowstone. Mall of America A shopper's paradise near Minneapolis MN. I felt right at home here. Biggest Ball of Twine A Minnesota landmark. This one shows the amazing marvel, made from 21,140 pounds of string. Note the makeshift pagoda in which the stinky ball now sits. Minnesota Giant Cherry The large cherry on a spoon sculpture in Minneapolis, MN Paul Bunyan and Babe A giant version in Eau Claire Wisconsin Yee Haw! It's Arkansas! Welcome to AR bridge, "Birthplace of Bill Clinton." Thunderbird Motor Lodge Cafe Sign A dump of a motel in Minneapolis, MN. Worth a trip to the Pow Wow lounge and coffee shop, however. Big 'Ol Indian Part of the Thunderbird's politically incorrect decor. |
