well, i got home today to find a note on the kitchen table saying that 92.9 LITE-FM (a soft rock pittsburgh radio station that plays the beegees from time to time.) had a contest in honor of the birthdays today. caller nine would recieve a special beegees package. of course reading about this made me mad that i wasn't sitting by the radio expecting this. feeling like i missed out, i decided to call anyway, and see if they were going to do it again! well when i called they told me that it was not an all day contest, but since i called anyway, they'd give it to me too! i was told that the special beegees package was their latest CD ONO, and a ONO poster! and then i was entered to win even more from some catalog, including all kinds of more stuff. i was so excited, (even though i already have it :) i'll take another!)

well, i finally found some time around last week to go and venture to the great unknown to get my BEEGEES PRIZE PACKAGE. finding the place was not too difficult, going along with me was my friend nick who knows his way around pittsburgh alot better than i.

on our way into the building i said to nick, "just for the record, i'm going to try to milk them for more stuff, so don't get all embarrased." he laughed or something, so i figured he was ok with it.

we get inside and proceed to go to the 7th floor as i was instructed to do so by the radio personality. apon arriving the floor, the place looked alot more like a business building rather than the student run college radio station that i am accustomed to. we go into the glass door with 92.9 Lite-FM plastered on it.

we look around the room to see a few cubicles and nothing much more. it was then when we figured that we were not actually standing in the station itself, but we had just journeyed to their OFFICES. there was a man sitting behind the main desk, talking on the phone. when he saw us come in, he proceeded to hang up and say

"can i help you?"

now, this wasn't a normal "can i help you?" it sounded more like, "what the ^%$@# do you want, can't you see i was on the phone."

me- "I was just coming to pick up my prize, I won the BEEGEES PRIZE PACKAGE."

the scary secretary guy reached for a pile of papers and said, "So you won the GRAND PRIZE?" .........

i didn't know what to say, i know i hadn't, i was only eligible for it so far, but i knew that the grand prize was full of stuff like autographed memoribilia and cds and tapes and all i was getting was a cd of ONO that i already had (cause real fans bought it by then) and a poster. so i figured what the heck.......

"I....I.....I..... I guess.....?"

he took down my name and started asking me all of these questions.... "who did you talk to on the phone?" "I DONT KNOW?" "what time in the day?" "ONE O'CLOCK.... MAYBE TWO???" "what's your social security number??" "FOR A PRIZE??? OK.... IT'S ***-**-****"

quickly i realized that there was no fooling around here. i think this guy was either a wanna be, or ex- warden in a prison or something. i turned to nick, and he snickered and mocked under his breath, "JusT fOr tHE rEcorD, I'm goINg to miLK mOrE ouT oF tHEm... HA!"

the guy asked for my license and signature, and he disappeared through a door in the back of the office. me and nick let out a sigh mixed in with a laugh as the temperature in the room returned to normal in his absence. (get it?? he was cold....never mind.)

"Dude!" I exclaimed. "What if he brings the whole frickin' GRAND PRIZE to me?!?!" (dialect was added later for emphasis.)

after a short period of time, the scary warden secretary guy returned with my cd and poster. it must have been written down in the back who the real GRAND PRIZE winner was. he handed the goods over to me, along with my license. and we left.... quickly.

in the elevator going back down, i examined my winnings. the "poster" was really only a "MINI-poster" if that. with dimensions measuring 1 foot x 2. the top half is the same as the interior of the cd, the wide shot of the three bros. at their respective mics. the bottom half is completely white except for the middle which reads "BeeGees" in bold gold letters. (the same font as on the cd.) and below that in a smaller and different font (again, much like the cd cover) "One Night Only" then in the lower right hand corner there is a miniature (3in. x 3in.) picture of the cd cover.

i guess the trip was definitely worth it, i got a neat "poster" out of it after all. since i of course already had one i gave the cd to my girlfriend. i considered giving it to nick, since he accompanied me and all. but he wouldn't appreciate it. plus, amber is my main "convertee"

Moral of the Story: "Just for the record... I'll leave the milking to the cows."
