"Trouble" in trouble: Swept off sweeps HOLLYWOOD (Variety) - Call it the trouble with hiatus. ABC has pulled rookie comedy "The Trouble with Normal" off the air for the remainder of the November sweeps. The Paramount-produced series has been a consistent ratings loser since its Oct. 6 debut as part of the network's new Friday night comedy block. A second original installment of "Two Guys and a Girl" will fill the 8:30 p.m. slot this week, while a previously scheduled Beatles special will eliminate the entire comedy block Nov. 17. A special family-themed edition of "Who Wants to Be a Millionaire" is slated for Thanksgiving night and Nov. 24. ABC refused to say "Normal" was dead, although the network has yet to officially schedule a December return date. The critically lambasted show revolves around four paranoid New Yorkers and their shrink. "Normal" has been averaging a weak 2.5 rating with viewers in the covered adults 18-49 demographic, losing a good chunk of its "Two Guys" lead-in. The show earned a 2.4 rating last Friday, making it the weakest link on a not particularly strong night for ABC. While no official decision has been made, there's a good chance ABC may soon order additional episodes of Gabriel Byrne's rookie Friday comedy "Madigan Men."
