My DD Movie Report
Hi everyone. Here it is, finally, my reviews on David's movies. Unfortunately I haven't seen all of them yet, so this list isn't complete.
Until I get to see the rest of them, you'll just have to be patient with the descriptions of the movies I've seen so far.
Returning visitors will notice that I just added a picture from the movie next to the description of the movie. Unfortunately I don't have pics for all the movies, but I'll keep looking.
I didn't describe the stories of the movies where Dave only had small roles in. With his later movies, where he had leading roles, like "Playing God" and such, you'll find a short description first and then my personal comment.
And please always remember, these comments are subjective, it is well possible that you may think totally different abouth the movies. §:o)
Zoolander, 2002
"What, THAT was David?", was the initial response from my friend Mel when I told her that that old, fat, creepy guy was indeed David Duchovny. I admit, he WAS hard to recognize, but if you are a fan like me, you just see it. |
Evolution, 2001
I didn't see it in the movies, since I was on holiday when it came out and it was in the cinemas for only 3 weeks, so I had to download it from the internet. The quality is not so good, but you can still see how gorgeous this man is!! Brief description of the plot: A meteor crashes down in the middle of the desert, and David (a disillusioned college teacher named Ira Kane) and a friend of his (played by Orlando Jones) drive down to the crash site. They take a sample from the meteor, and when they analyse it, they find it evolving rapidly. A couple of million years of evolution in just a few hours. ![]() And in the end, with the help of a huge firetruck loaded with "Head 'N Shoulders" shampoo, David and Co. finally kill the monsters and the world is safe again. Well, all in all a typical sci-fi movie. With a little bit of the obligatory romance betweeen the main characters. I didn't really like the romance thing, because it felt so constructed. Who would fall in love with a woman who is obviously so dorky and keeps falling over her own feet? Definitely no guy like David!! But what the hell, if he doesn't get any action with Scully, let him at least have some here! And since we don't get a single nudity scene with him, we can at least imagine them making out in the firetruck. Hmmmmm... ;-) I must admit, I didn't like the movie very much, it was funny, ok, but it wasn't really original. It reminded me a lot of Ghostbusters, which was probably intended. But I did like the scene when the three men were hunting this flying dinosaur in the mall, that was so cool. Well, I guess you'll just have to see the movie for yourselves, and make up your own opinion about it. If you disagree with my view, feel free to write me and discuss your thoughts. |
Return To Me, 2000
Looks like he never really gets away from spooky movies, since this movie too has a slightly supernatural tone. In this movie David is an architect named Bob Rueland, whose wife had just died in a car accident. But her heart lives on in the waitress Grace, whom David meets and falls in love with.
![]() A really romantic movie, with slightly spooky tone, when Bob and Grace feel this unexplanable attraction. Even Bob's wife's gorilla senses that there is something familiar about Grace. In this movie we get to see David from a completely different side, as a normal guy, playing bowling, dating women, dancing and playing with his dog. And when he cries about his wife, you really wanna jump into the TV to hold him, you feel so sorry for him. My favourite line in the movie is when he and Grace cover the flowers in the garden and he says how beautiful the place looks. "It's like a... a... garden!" He can be so funny! And he once again proves that he looks damn sexy in a tuxedo. The only thing I didn't like about his looks was his hair, I mean, didn't they find any wax? Anyway, David and Mini looked really great together, a real romantic feel-good movie, no guns, no crime, just heart-warming love! You'll just love it!! |
The X-Files Movie, 1998
![]() I guess I don't need to tell you anything about this movie,
because we all saw it at least 10 times (well, that's what I did). |
Playing God, 1997
His first movie since the MF - the Mulder factor. Unfortunately
this movie didn't bring the success David hoped. He plays a drug
addicted doctor who loses his license when he kills a patient. One night he goes to a club, and helps a customer when he is shot in the chest. |
Kalifornia, 1993
This movie is about Dave's character Brian and his girlfriend Carrie who travel to California, visiting some historic murder sites on the way.<
img src="pics/ddthumbs/tkalifo1.jpg" align="right" width=140 height=160> They pick up Adele and Early, a couple with extremely low IQ. Soon it turns out that Early is a wanted serial killer who even killed several people on the trip to California. But it is nearly too late when Brian and Carrie finally find out... |
Ruby, 1992
This movie is about the assassin of John F. Kennedy's assassin, Jack Ruby. David plays the role of officer Tippit, who is totally fascinated by Ruby's new stripper girlfriend. He appears on the scene once in a while, (mostly in Ruby's stripper club to watch the women ;-)) but if you don't know about the real story that's behind him, you might not understand the importance of his character for the movie. |
Beethoven, 1992
|
Don't Tell Mom the Babysitter's Dead,
1991
He played a really nasty role in this one. He plays the yuppie
boyfriend of Carolyn, the oponent of Christina Applegate's character Sue Ellen. Throughout the whole movie he tries to pull her down, but in the end he and his girl fail. |
Julia Has Two Lovers, 1991
|
The Rapture, 1991
|
Bad Influence, 1990
I watched the movie two times, and even then I nearly overlooked him. He is there for about a second, and just a profile shot of him. The movie itself was not so hot either, so it is basically a waste of time. |
Working Girl, 1988
This is a real good movie, but in regards to David it is very disappointing. You have to watch very closely to even see him when he's on screen. He appears on three occasions, on Tess' birthday party, in a pub (in the background of the picture), and at the wedding at the end of the movie. All in all he's visible for about 50 seconds. |
New Years Day, 1987
Unfortunately I missed it when it came on TV a couple of years ago, but I've been heavily observing the TV program ever since so that I won't miss it when it aires next time. Because this is the first and only movie where he ever showed all of his beautyful body. I saw a couple of snapshots of that, and I tell you, at least THAT makes the movie worth watching. |
