My DD Movie Report

Hi everyone. Here it is, finally, my reviews on David's movies. Unfortunately I haven't seen all of them yet, so this list isn't complete.
Until I get to see the rest of them, you'll just have to be patient with the descriptions of the movies I've seen so far.
Returning visitors will notice that I just added a picture from the movie next to the description of the movie. Unfortunately I don't have pics for all the movies, but I'll keep looking.
I didn't describe the stories of the movies where Dave only had small roles in. With his later movies, where he had leading roles, like "Playing God" and such, you'll find a short description first and then my personal comment.
And please always remember, these comments are subjective, it is well possible that you may think totally different abouth the movies. §:o)

Zoolander, 2002

"What, THAT was David?", was the initial response from my friend Mel when I told her that that old, fat, creepy guy was indeed David Duchovny. I admit, he WAS hard to recognize, but if you are a fan like me, you just see it.
He plays an aged hand-model, who keeps his hands in some sort of oxygene gloves or something, so that, unlike the rest of his body, they stay beautiful and wrinkle-free. He tipps off Zoolander that there has been a conspiracy going on for a long time that stupid male models have always been used for assassinating important people, and that he, Zoolander, will be used for such a crime, too. Then the group gets attacked, and David (sorry, I don't know the character's name) gets shot. And stupid Zoolander crushed his keep-fresh-gloves, so now David's hands will wrinkle, too. What an idiot!!
Well, just a little role for David, but I (how could I not?) loved him. He was really weird, with these things over his hands, and they did a real good job making him old and unattractive (which we all know is indeed VERY hard to do!!!). For a second pic of him, click here.
Unfortunately he only has a small part in the movie, but he once again shows that he can be really funny.
All in all I liked the movie very much, and that is not only because of David.

Evolution, 2001

I didn't see it in the movies, since I was on holiday when it came out and it was in the cinemas for only 3 weeks, so I had to download it from the internet. The quality is not so good, but you can still see how gorgeous this man is!!
Brief description of the plot: A meteor crashes down in the middle of the desert, and David (a disillusioned college teacher named Ira Kane) and a friend of his (played by Orlando Jones) drive down to the crash site. They take a sample from the meteor, and when they analyse it, they find it evolving rapidly. A couple of million years of evolution in just a few hours.
Soon these creatures get so complex that they become a real threat to humans. Then there is a whole lot of mistunderstandings, confessions, flirty looks, evil military generals and of course, a whole lot of very imaginative special effects. I have never seen monsters so... colourful!!
And in the end, with the help of a huge firetruck loaded with "Head 'N Shoulders" shampoo, David and Co. finally kill the monsters and the world is safe again.
Well, all in all a typical sci-fi movie. With a little bit of the obligatory romance betweeen the main characters. I didn't really like the romance thing, because it felt so constructed. Who would fall in love with a woman who is obviously so dorky and keeps falling over her own feet? Definitely no guy like David!! But what the hell, if he doesn't get any action with Scully, let him at least have some here! And since we don't get a single nudity scene with him, we can at least imagine them making out in the firetruck. Hmmmmm... ;-)
I must admit, I didn't like the movie very much, it was funny, ok, but it wasn't really original. It reminded me a lot of Ghostbusters, which was probably intended. But I did like the scene when the three men were hunting this flying dinosaur in the mall, that was so cool.
Well, I guess you'll just have to see the movie for yourselves, and make up your own opinion about it. If you disagree with my view, feel free to write me and discuss your thoughts.
Return To Me, 2000

Looks like he never really gets away from spooky movies, since this movie too has a slightly supernatural tone. In this movie David is an architect named Bob Rueland, whose wife had just died in a car accident. But her heart lives on in the waitress Grace, whom David meets and falls in love with. Neither of the two knows that Grace's heart is actually Bob's dead wife's heart, but when they find out, Grace breaks out and runs away to Europe. But since we all need a happy ending, Bob follows her to Italy and they all live happily ever after.
A really romantic movie, with slightly spooky tone, when Bob and Grace feel this unexplanable attraction. Even Bob's wife's gorilla senses that there is something familiar about Grace. In this movie we get to see David from a completely different side, as a normal guy, playing bowling, dating women, dancing and playing with his dog. And when he cries about his wife, you really wanna jump into the TV to hold him, you feel so sorry for him. My favourite line in the movie is when he and Grace cover the flowers in the garden and he says how beautiful the place looks. "It's like a... a... garden!" He can be so funny! And he once again proves that he looks damn sexy in a tuxedo. The only thing I didn't like about his looks was his hair, I mean, didn't they find any wax? Anyway, David and Mini looked really great together, a real romantic feel-good movie, no guns, no crime, just heart-warming love! You'll just love it!!
The X-Files Movie, 1998

I guess I don't need to tell you anything about this movie, because we all saw it at least 10 times (well, that's what I did).
In this movie Mulder behaved little different than like we know him, e.g. drinking alcohol, which is usually not his style. And kissing Scully is also not his style. I'm sure you all held your breath when they approach each other. But then, one millisecond before their lips meet, this nasty little bee stings Scully and infects her with the alien virus. Another climax of the movie was supposed to be in hospital, when Mulder gets out of his bed, and we see his butt peeking out of the hospital gown. But unfortunately that sexy scene was cut out of the movie. Some people said it would be put into the video version, but I couldn't find it anywhere. Maybe they put it in in the US.
Well, anyway a fine movie, nearly 2 hours of our favourite FBI agents at work and play. I can't wait to see the second movie, hope they'll start filming soon.

Playing God, 1997

His first movie since the MF - the Mulder factor. Unfortunately this movie didn't bring the success David hoped. He plays a drug addicted doctor who loses his license when he kills a patient. One night he goes to a club, and helps a customer when he is shot in the chest. The underworld boss Raimond Blossom takes notice of it, and hires Eugene (David) to save another life. Eugene gets more and more involved into this lifestyle, but when the FBI takes notice of it, he's in deep trouble. He makes a deal with them to betray Raimond. In the meantime he falls in love with Ray's girlfriend. The magical showdown of the movie tops in a carchase, at whose end Ray gets hit by a car. He survived, but is put into prison, and Eugene and his new girl live happily together.
All in all a cool movie, very funny at some points. Unfortunately I only saw it in German, and it lost a lot in the traduction. But I saw a couple of scenes on a DD interview, and it's no comparison. All the funny moments aren't funny in German. Another reason for me not to like the German version is that they cut out the love scene David and Angelina Jolie had. I hate those people for that!!
After all, it was strange to see Dave in such an unfamiliar role. I'm really glad he went on doing "The X-Files", and next time I wish him a more successful journey into the movie business.

Kalifornia, 1993

This movie is about Dave's character Brian and his girlfriend Carrie who travel to California, visiting some historic murder sites on the way.< img src="pics/ddthumbs/tkalifo1.jpg" align="right" width=140 height=160> They pick up Adele and Early, a couple with extremely low IQ. Soon it turns out that Early is a wanted serial killer who even killed several people on the trip to California. But it is nearly too late when Brian and Carrie finally find out...
At first I only watched this movie because of Brad Pitt. That was long before I became a fan of David's and The X-Files'. I had seen The X-Files once or twice, so at least I knew who Dave was. I didn't find this movie so cool then, because Brad looked really strange and ugly in it. But then, after I became a fan of Dave's, I started liking it more and more. Especially when he and his girlfriend Carrie make wild love on the bed and Brad listens behind the wall. We get a fabulous side look at Dave's backside! My tape nearly broke by rewinding it so often. His character Brian undergoes a severe change in the course of the movie. In the end he kills Brad with an emotionless look in his eyes that would be worth the Cigarette Smoking Man. Maybe David took some lessons...

Ruby, 1992

This movie is about the assassin of John F. Kennedy's assassin, Jack Ruby. David plays the role of officer Tippit, who is totally fascinated by Ruby's new stripper girlfriend. He appears on the scene once in a while, (mostly in Ruby's stripper club to watch the women ;-)) but if you don't know about the real story that's behind him, you might not understand the importance of his character for the movie.

Beethoven, 1992

I guess everybody has seen this movie so far, so I needn't talk about the story much. About David's character, he is a snobbish yuppie business man, and he and his wife want to take over the firm of Beethoven's family. Nice plan, but they shouldn't have underestimated the dog. He listens to them talking about their plans, and he decides to blow the negotiations by "gently" sweeping them out of the garden.
Boy, it even hurts watching them being whirled through the air and dragged along the sidewalk behind this megalomaniac dog. Although the two more than deserve it, you still feel pity for David. This man is so cute you just can't be angry at him.

Don't Tell Mom the Babysitter's Dead, 1991

He played a really nasty role in this one. He plays the yuppie boyfriend of Carolyn, the oponent of Christina Applegate's character Sue Ellen. Throughout the whole movie he tries to pull her down, but in the end he and his girl fail.
He looks so stupid in this movie, like a real jerk. He has so much oil in his hair, you could run a car with it for two years.
After all, it is a good movie. I even taped the whole film, and not just the parts with David. Isn't that reason enough for you to watch it?

Julia Has Two Lovers, 1991

Here's another movie where David shows a lot of his awfully hot body to his fans. Well, that's fine with me ;-)
His character calls a woman and pretends to have dialed the wrong number. Then he keeps this woman on the phone for hours and makes her tell her sexual experiences. He convinces her to meet him the next day, and they have sex. The next day the woman finds out that David's character often rings up women to seduce them, and she breaks up with him. But David realizes that he really is in love with that woman, and he wants to spend the rest of his life with her.
A beautifully stupid love story, but David makes up for it very well. Boy, he was so sexy brown then. Only this white butt...

The Rapture, 1991

Wow, what a strange movie!! Mimi Rogers is a woman who starts an affair with David's character Randy. They have wild sex, and at one time in this movie Dave even has sex with two women at a time. Very hot stuff. Soon David's and Mimi's characters get married and have a daughter. But then in the middle of the movie Randy gets shot in the chest, and then I stopped watching it, because the rest of the movie is really weird.

Bad Influence, 1990

I watched the movie two times, and even then I nearly overlooked him. He is there for about a second, and just a profile shot of him. The movie itself was not so hot either, so it is basically a waste of time.

Working Girl, 1988

This is a real good movie, but in regards to David it is very disappointing. You have to watch very closely to even see him when he's on screen. He appears on three occasions, on Tess' birthday party, in a pub (in the background of the picture), and at the wedding at the end of the movie. All in all he's visible for about 50 seconds.

New Years Day, 1987

Unfortunately I missed it when it came on TV a couple of years ago, but I've been heavily observing the TV program ever since so that I won't miss it when it aires next time. Because this is the first and only movie where he ever showed all of his beautyful body. I saw a couple of snapshots of that, and I tell you, at least THAT makes the movie worth watching.

Until then, keep watching the sky and The X-Files, with or without David, and remember, the truth is out there!!
