If Rebecca Herbst (Elizabeth) isn’t at work, she’s likely to be sitting at a sewing machine. "I learned how to sew from my mom," she says. "Recently, we made curtains for our living room and dining room to go wit hour new couches." Herbst’s hobby isn’t confined to home decorating, either. "When I was a kid, I used to make bathing suits for my Cabbage Patch dolls by cutting two armholes in some fabric and taping up the sides. But when I graduated high school, I got this really cool, computerized sewing machine, so I started making my own dressed." Now, Herbst is an old hand. "I wouldn’t consider myself a great seamstress, but I can take a pattern, get the basic idea, and then design and make different straps and things.: She made the dress she wore to
this year’s Daytime Emmy Awards and looks forward to stitching something for an even more special occasion. "My mom made her wedding dress," she explains. "Hopefully, she and I will end up making mine, too!" |
