Tuxedo: ActionAdventure.com Preview

Early news and views on Jackie Chan's latest action movie

Dreamworks Pictures held a Summer Sneak Preview party for press where it showed scenes from their slate of upcoming films. This included a trailer for Jackie Chan's next vehicle, The Tuxedo. Their goal for this film is a PG rating, which would make the film accessible to Chan fans of all ages. Chan plays the chauffeur of a superspy (Jason Isaacs) whose super powers come from the magical suit. When the real spy is incapacitated, Chan's character gets to wear the tux.

The trailer was quick cut but I could make out a few nifty action scenes in it. In one, cab driver Chan opens his car door to stop a bicyclist. Another scene has Chan and Isaacs flying away from a car explosion. When Chan put the tuxedo on, electric ripples flowed over his body, indicating the magic was about to begin.

In subsequent scenes, Chan was walking up walls, running alongside a speeding car and dancing. Of course he does martial arts double kicks and his usual acrobatic fighting moves, but the catch is, he's acting like he doesn't know what he's doing the whole time. Of course, true fans recognize some of this shtick from Snake in the Eagle's Shadow but this looks like a far more advanced combination of bumbling and fighting.

Perhaps the best moment of the trailer is when Chan accidentally knocks out James Brown. Good to know the Godfather of Soul is a good sport.

Jennifer Love Hewitt's character was unclear, but it seems she's playing a woman with some spy business who is supposed to hook up with Isaac's character but gets Chan instead. She has some cute moments complaining about Jackie, with some double entendre about his bad accent.
