Jet Li: Finally a
PS2 game
Believe it or not, they are finally making a Jet Li game! Sony
recently announced a new PlayStation 2 game that is currently known by the
working title of Rise to Honor. According the
Gamespot.com, "the game will strive
to mix realism with the cinematic stylings of Hong Kong action films and will
star Jet Li".
Jet
Li will be motion-captured for the game, and the movement will be directed by
none other than Corey Yuen, who as we know has choreographed fights in several
of Jet Li's films. Jet will also provide voice-over work to his character in the
game, and will provide creative input as well. Jet will be cast in the role of
Kit Yun, the bodyguard of a Hong Kong crime boss named Boss Chiang. After Chiang
is assassinated, Kit Yun is charged with the task of finding the crime boss'
daughter in America and returning her to Hong Kong, while working for 2 opposing
forces. Given orders by both Kwan (an aspiring crime boss) and Captain Lau (Yun's
legitimate boss for the Hong Kong Organized Crime Bureau), Yun enters into the
city of San Francisco only to find himself ensnared in a tangle of alliances and
opposing powers.
According to Jet, "Working with the Foster City Studio team to create a game for the PlayStation 2 has been an exciting experience--very different from making a movie". "The motion-capture system allows for extremely realistic movements, and, in addition, we were able to use a lot of actions in the game that we can't normally put in a film. The results in the final game should provide the player with a genuine feel for the action."
Jim Wallace, associate director of Foster City Studio said: "When we began the concept stages to Rise of Honor more than three years ago, we knew we wanted it to be based on the style of a Hong Kong action movie". "We were thrilled when we found out that Jet was interested in collaborating on a PS2 project, knowing that his creative input on Rise to Honor would help us to truly realize our vision for this ambitious game."
The game is scheduled for a fall 2003 release. I know that's a long time to wait, so here are 2 pictures of the game for you to enjoy. You can also download 6 movies of the game from IGN PS2, 5 of them on what was shown at the Sony Game Day, while the other one being a clip of the game in action.
Seeing how the character Kit Yun looks like, it seems that it was modeled based on Jet Li's character in Kiss of the Dragon, the kick was the same in the pool scene in KOD and the character even Jet's KOD hair!
