There are some movies you just can't help liking, despite its limitations. For me, Blood, Bullets and Buffoons is one of those movies.
Written and directed by E.I. Cinema staple Zack Snygg (the first person seen in The Vampire's Seduction), Snygg also stars as the film's hero, Jack, who falls in with the wrong crowd, is betrayed by his best friend, goes to jail for a crime he didn't commit, gets out, and embarks on an elaborate... er, terribly simple plan of revenge.
Blood, Bullets and Buffoons is a very raw-looking film. It wasn't color-corrected very well. Much of the film is grainy and over-exposed. Sometimes the hand-held photography works, sometimes it doesn't. The actors all have multiple roles due to their inability to find other people for various scenes. The sound ranges from fair to middling with little in between.
But it is sooo funny!
The sense of humor is really what saves Blood, Bullets and Buffoons from being a throw-away, direct-to-video piece of junk. Both Snygg and his frequent co-star John P. Fedele (Wally Van Helsing from The Vampire's Seduction and Glitter Bolan in Titanic Vampire 2000) are positively hilarious. Snygg keeps the jokes coming quickly, so that if you don't like one, just wait a few seconds. He also keeps the action moving, which helps a great deal. Sibling Spencer Snygg handles the camera-work, and it's obvious that neither of the Snygg boys are afraid to take chances when it comes to an odd piece of photography. Most of the wilder shots work to the film's advantage. It is never dull. And for those who follow these sorts of things, Blood, Bullets and Buffoons also stars Penthouse Pet Amy Lynn Baxter. So... okay then.
Again, those weaned on slick Hollywood productions will not be impressed, and will likely, and very loudly, pan Blood, Bullets and Buffoons, then dismiss it entirely. But fans of low-budget filmmaking owe it to themselves to check it out. It's a good example working with your limitations, rather than ignoring them (or worse, fighting them). The Snygg's should be commended for their efforts.
Blood, Bullets and Buffoons can be ordered through E.I. Cinema.
