Ratings RP droolabilty 10, His bod alone gets a 10. I like his JD hair better though. The shirt off factor, 0, He does look sexy in tight black T and cargo pants. Spine tingling looks, 10, I’d be scared sh*tless. The gravely voice, 10, He usually does when he’s playing bad-a$$ roles. Presence in movie 5, It takes 40 minutes until he’s in. Swear-o-meter 10, OMG, I’m gonna to faint! |
Summary FBI agent Jack Molloy (Sylvetser Stallone) turns to drink after his girlfriend is brutally murdered by a serial killer. He is directed to a D-Tox centre in snowy Wyoming run by a former cop, specifically to help cop alcoholics dry out. Unfortunately the serial killer follows him there and any one of the nine patients could be him. Hell bent on hurting Molloy by killing off those around him no one is immune from being the next possible victim. Being blocked in during a blizzard there is nowhere to run. |

My Thoughts Psychological Thriller I only noticed this movie because I knew RP would be in it. I remarked to my daughter in the theatre that it’d probably be a movie I’d see eventually but not until the video. It’s a formula psychological thriller – you know like ‘Alien’ or ‘The Shining’ or The X-Files ‘Ice’- I’m sure you can think of more. One where there’s a killer of some kind loose on the isolated premises and there’s nowhere to hide. The group goes paranoid eventually many of them turning against each other. Funny how there was a wall of knives in the kitchen and whole heap of axes and nasty looking devices in the shed – a serial killer’s paradise if you ask me. The story did keep me interested however right until the end. Action The action in this movie was well paced. At no time did I feel my mind wavering. The 96 minutes seemed to go quickly. The initial set up of the storyline kept me intrigued and was not too long compared with the body of the story at the D-Tox centre. The ending happened was probably a little predictable but as I said there seems to be a formula for these types of movies. D-Tox is rated MA for violence and gore so I was prepared to see some distasteful stuff. If you have a queasy stomach don’t see it. If you HAVE to see it because RP’s gorgeous face and bod graces the screen then just look away at those parts. I warn you - they DO look real. Apparently in the original there were more of these scenes but they’ve been cut for the cinemas screenings. I have seen worse gore movies so I could handle this okay. My 16 year old daughter didn’t though. She felt disturbed by some of the images she saw especially eye injuries. I had warned her about the rating and what she could possibly see. Music and SXF The background ambient music and sound effects were fabulous. I must give John Powell a pat on the back. It added wonderfully to the varying moods throughout the story. There were two songs played during the movie and they fitted the scene at the time. However the two songs in the end credits really didn’t seem as though they were part of the same movie, my daughter even noticed this. Robert Patrick Appearances Don’t die!!! I would have said this a number of times in the cinema. Robert Patrick plays Pete Noah one of the nine patients sent to the clinic to dry out. I remember the first time I read a synopsis I thought <<Oh no – he’s either going to get killed and/or he’s the killer>>. (Well if you want spoilers like that you can always email me and I’ll be happy to divulge more information.) He plays an angry-a$$ cop who likes to kick people when they’re down. He’s not meant to be playing a friendly character. He does the bad guy so well. The first time we see this god of a man is about forty minutes into the movie but from there on he plays a fairly big part. When you first see him your eyes’ll probably pop out. He’s described as ‘pumped-up’ by the leader and he’s obviously been working out. Think of The X-Files ‘John Doe’ then add a tight black T-shirt and cargo pants with a belt. My eyes are still a little loose in their sockets remembering back…. And those ARMS!!!! And PECS!!!! His hair is quite short in this and combed forward. I do like his Doggett length better. As for the potty mouth, that’s a definite 10 out of 10. Some choice words come out of his mouth – what is it about RP swearing that has me in raptures? Pity about the smoking but I’m glad he’s given up now. Memorable Scenes 1. This would be giving too much away but I can give you one word PUSH-UPS!! Or is that two words. Imagine RP doing push-ups then SEE him doing them – I felt like yelling to the projectionist <<Stop! Rewind! Again!>>. It had better come out on video. 2. Facial expressions – this role was made for RP – again he goes through the whole gamut. I’ve now found another movie where he cries! Other Comments – from Internet research Fairly good combination of a cop-thriller and a slasher – Teemu Paiste IMDb D-Tox is a well made, routine thriller with a compelling cast. - Louise Keller (It) is worth an idle 95 minutes or so.- Andrew L. Urban Availability I don’t think this movie has been released in the states. It is currently running in cinemas here in Melbourne, Australia. (Of course I saw it the very first day.) End thoughts Yes, it’s a movie worth seeing whether RP is in it or not but maybe I’m just biased. I’m dying for it to come out on video because I’ll snap it up and can rewind those certain parts. If squeamish you may need to look away at times but most of these scenes you’ll be duly warned. D-Tox didn’t set my adrenaline running as much as some movies I’ve seen but I was thoroughly rapt for the whole 96 minutes. |
