CO Judah Gibbons finds himself in the unenviable position of needing to
write a "Dear John" to CSO Mercedes McCarter's sister Jolie. Having
written an initial draft, the captain asks Mercedes to proofread it and
make adjustments. The tone of the letter is blunt and male, as expected,
but the gist of it leaves Mercedes wondering if his feelings for Jolie
are strong enough that she should back out instead of "stealing" him.
Then, he invites her to dinner in his quarters. She accepts and combined
with their romantic parting, she grins and hums through the rest of her
duty shift, earning unnoticed strange looks from her staff. After her
shift is over, she tries on several outfits under the discerning eye of
her holographic friend Hawkeye. The "smashing" outfit he recommends is a
sexy knee-length dress the replicator produced when she asked for an
elegant floor-length gown. When she arrives at the HAMILTON CO's door,
she catches him in his apron taking care of the final preparations for
their dinner. She thinks it makes him look adorable and gives him a
quick kiss on the cheek that she immediately regrets, thinking she's
going too fast. He jokingly offers to get her some seaweed wine, to
which she laughs, relaxes, and requests a Chardonnay. He finishes up
while she enjoys her wine, then they sit down to eat. Mercedes'
quietness during the meal leads Judah to ask if everything is alright
and she replies that she was just thinking how little she deserved
someone of his quality. He answers with a tsking about her being so hard
on herself and compliments her. She changes the subject by asking if he
would care to dance and when he asks about music she says the only music
they need is from their hearts, heard in their heads.
Meanwhile, the fruit of a months old work of sabotage is discovered by
some junior members of the engineering team though the sabotage itself
remains concealed. The replicators are not only consuming more energy
than the things requested of them should require, but they are also
producing less than is ordered. As if that weren't mystery enough, the
apparently unused energy vanishes from the system monitor reports as
well, going who-knows-where to do who-knows-what.

CSciO Melody Cuen says goodbye to Dr. Bill Patton, with whom she's been
very good friends. Shortly after Patton and his fiancéée, Kathy Rhule,
have departed the ship, LtCmdr. James Burke arrives aboard and assumes
command. Taking over from Patton, CMO Electra Threin continues the
preparation for Amy's pregnancy. FO Leyson Ayden takes Burke on a tour
of the ship, paying a visit to all major area's and offices. Last stop
is sickbay, where Threin takes a physical. He's fine, but the CMO does
advice him to maintain a healthy diet and life style.
Finished with the tour, Ayden returns to the bridge. After allowing FCO
Jarek Malaar to help track down Dr. Wednesday, the FO has a talk with
Sasha Kali. She tells him he needs to relax his command style a bit if
he wants to be accepted by the crew.
After a heated discussion, D'Art allows Cady to go see Chug in the brig.
Cady threatens to paralyze Chug for life, but can't get himself to do
it.
CSO Mauler and Cmdr. Burke enter the brig with Dr. Wednesday, but the
man disappears again before he can be put in a cell.

With the abrupt ending to the trial, as the defendant combusted into a
ball of flamed, questions are flying in the air, about the ring leader
behind all the chaos behind it all, as first was the exploded ship, with
thekilling of Commander Hicks, then the treatment of Qeonsal during
thepretrial, and then the death of the Intel Officer. In time there will
be some answersto all these questions, but at what cost.
Ch'Iv is going through a few problems, with the discovery of a black
Kyroid template sphere N'Borga had found, as he could understand the
data. Ensign N'Borga offers to help him out a little and they both set
off to the Holodeck.
New orders arrive, and the Hermes crew are ordered to the Geltan III in
the Cadi Sector, for a Search and Rescue Mission.

Once back on TRAX, Roberts is take to Sickbay. He recovers without
aftereffects. Fischer promises a full investigation on the Vurtedion
group's activities. Everyone returns to DS 101.
Meanwhile back at DS 101, a ship arrives from SB OMEGA. It brings word
of a starship crash on a Class-M planet with a pre-warp civilization. An
on-site investigation is called for. But with Alyza being under other
orders, the start of the investigation awaits the return of the Senior
Staff to DS 101.

In Talonid space, Kelen and his daughter, Leonna, have a discussion.
Leonna tells Kelen what awaits him in his future... Command of the USS
CURIE, defection with his crew to prevent genocide, his subsequent
courts-martial and disappearance. In the here and now, they await a
future Kelen's actions. Their ship, DARK ANGEL, comes out of warp
surrounded by Talonid warships. The battle is only a breath away. On
the NIGHTINGALE, Canon, McCuen, Abigail, Kari, and T'Mal take a break on
the Holodeck with an adventure in Narina. Stuart has Bridge duty.
Kennala's operation to hopefully repair her spinal injury is only hours
away... as is NIGHTINGALE's arrival at DS 101.

Na'stiu and Juun relations continue to be tense without progress from
assigned diplomatic teams.
Activity has been reported in the Holack sector, despite the Veil's
blockage of subspace communication. The USS HERMES has been sent to
investigate.
Reports of Talonid invasion into the Cocoon have been determined to be
false.
The USS JOHN GLENN has reportedly found debris from the destruction of
the USS COCHRANE. Search for survivors continues, but none have been
found at this time.

Amgine Sector and Andromeda Report (by Lt. Alac Nond)

OP 108 activity has begun increasing with the completion of the orbital
docking platform. Construction has begun on several new ships at the
newly contstructed shipyards there. In addition, the Andromeda wormhole
has shown no signs of unusual behavior in recent months, causing a
return of commerce to the area.
Peaceful cooperation with races in the Amgine Sector continue to
increase in the aftermath of the Noo'Ach Peace and Trade Conference.
Terrorist attacks continue to plague Starfleet ships in the Andromeda
Galaxy. Purist terrorist cells, devoted to ridding Andromeda of all
Federation presence, have jeopardized the entrance of Trasior into the
Federation. Negotiators on Trasior report that the Trasien council is
considering withdrawing their application for membership, while various
attacks and disappearances are being investigated both by Trasien
Security and by Starfleet.

Recent troop movements along Cardassia's border with Breen space has
sparked some interest in the Union's possible plans. With relations
still cold from the war, no official inquiries have been made, and no
investigation is planned.
Betazoid Council chairman Beyard Mali and Alpha Centauran Council
chairwoman Vhesha P'Nehbuddar have announced plans to begin a massive
cultural exchange between their two peoples, including cultural centers
on each of the two race's home planets. The cultural centers
will be primarily devoted to exploration of similarities between the two
cultures and will include expositions on the theoretical genetic links
between Alpha Centaurans and Betazoids.
Three suspected members of the Orion Syndicate were indicted today at a
Federation Council hearing. Although the Orion Syndicate has been
careful in the past to remain outside of Federation jurisdiction, the
recent acceptance of Vermanda III into the UFP has expanded StarFleet
presence into a previously unmoderated area, heavily used by Syndicate
trafficking. StarFleet expects no retaliation, but also no more
arrests, as the Syndicate has most likely changed their operations
routes.
