Waking on CO Judah Gibbons' couch, CSO Mercedes McCarter quickly
realises she is late. A flash shower and record uniform change later,
she arrives on the bridge to some good natured teasing from the captain.
After her shift, Mercedes activates a sword duel program in Holodeck 2
but is unable to "kill" her enemy in spite of its being a hologram. CNS
Logaan Woods, having witnessed her aborted mortal strike, steps forward
and Mercedes admits she is unsure she will be any more good against
Nengie. Her day dims further when she finds out shoreleave has been
cancelled and they have orders to proceed directly to the Ketuba sector,
but brightens again when Judah invites her to dinner again. Then, a far
darker cloud settles on the whole ship when Nengie arrives and
introduces himself to the two prophesied to save the Merlog from him as
well as their families. He starts with Chandler, first dissolving CEO
Patricia Brauckmiller's bones and leaving her piled on the floor to
suffocate so they can have some privacy.He tells her he is "the one and
the no one" as well as the one who brings "order to chaos and chaos to
order." He then leaves to introduce himself in the same fashion to CNS
Logaan Woods. Nengie adds on that Chandler's child will be his and
Logaan runs to find Chandler immediately after hearing that. He finds
her still staring at Patricia's remains. He calls Sickbay and asks one
of the Engineering staff to close off the office before taking Chandler
to his office and asking Mercedes to join them. Nengie then introduces
himself to Mercedes and again says Chandler's child will be his.
Mercedes is unimpressed until the threat to Chandler and her child to
which she responds with a threat of her own. Nengie just leaves laughing
and visits Yossarian McCarter, Mercedes' twin, Chandler's husband, next.
Like his sister, Yossarian is unimpressed until the threat to his child
when he makes a threat of his own. Nengie calls him insignificant and
leaves. The four so contacted gather in Logaan's office until the
counsellor realises his sister Sarah may be next on Nengie's list. He
races around to find her and catches up with her and her caretaker in
their quarters. After he dismisses the ensign, Nengie visits him again
and offers to bring back his parents and normalize Sarah if Logaan will
help him get the baby. Logaan decides to help Nengie as much as his
morals will allow. He returns to his office and puts his sleeping sister
in his chair before sitting down next to Mercedes, taking her hand, and
offering her dinner. She can't because of her prior acceptance of
Gibbons' offer. Then, Chandler and Yossarian return from their calming
walk and Logaan wonders in silence if Nengie tried to make a similar
deal with Mercedes.

The crews of DS 101 and USS NIGHTINGALE continue their joint mission.
The CURIE's crew deploys a far-reaching sensor system, ASSP, to get some
information from Nescio's system. It is discovered that the global
temperature of Nescio is approaching zero. Rings are discovered around
the planet, perhaps residue from a warp core breach. Another energy
residue points to weapons fire, non-federation weapons. There are faint
readings of an active energy source and then the ASSP experiences a
power surge and is shut down. Other ship systems soon follow. Review of
the ASSP data showed a second ship rendezvousing with the TASMANIA
shortly before its arrival at Nescio. Roberts and Speeder discover a
virus in the CURIE's computer system that was responsible for
multi-systems failure. Roberts is convinced that the virus was planted
by a crew member.
Lt Thayer, 'gale's Chief OPS, ferrets out some data on the TASMANIA and
her crew. The possibility that the TASMANIA is operating under
Starfleet INTEL cover is very real.
