CSO Mercedes McCarter, after fleeing with speed that
would embarrass a cheetah, finally gives herself a moment
to rest in an abandoned alleyway. The wall she leans on
gives way under her, though, almost dumping her on her
rump through an opening unseen from the outside but
clearly visible from inside. Not being the sort to shrink
from the unusual, Mercedes heads deeper into the place
with the concealed front door. Since the most likely
explanation is that this is some secret conclave's
headquarters, Mercedes slinks as stealthily along as she
can in the pitch blackness. The crunch of glass under one
foot gives her time to think, "Uh oh!" before the lights
flare on and she is flung against the wall and rendered
unconscious. When she wakes in a tiny room, she first
notices the room's other occupant, a smaller person whose
face is hidden behind a drooping green hood. Next, she
registers the artisan's faroff voice shouting in
arguement with someone else. The other voice insists thatif Shakia were
among them, they would know her by the
beauty and power radiating from her. The artisan angrily
gives up at this point, but vows to return and Mercedes'
attention returns to her companion. A girl, looking
almost exactly like Mediator Minuar Calvert, looks
boldly up at her now and Mercedes guesses, "Malaka?" The
girl nods and Mercedes introduces herself, tells her her
mother is somewhere in the city, and promises to get them
both out safely.
Right after they escape from their current predicament.

Captain Burke and CSO Kor have a talk about the Mystery Bar to make sure
no officers get caught in the raid. Later that day, Burke receives new
orders from the Fleet CO. The Horizon is to map a binary starsystem in
the Gaia sector and to observe the nova of one of the stars. Instead of
going to the Mystery Bar, CSciO Melody Cuen has dinner with Cmdr. Jared
Ireland from the Dakota.

Kersh assists the Deyhui to settle in on the station. Fischer
reconnects with Azteca and breaks up a fight outside Club 101 - Some of
the Deyhui are being harassed by civilians on the station. Goose Lt
Hunter Etori, newly posted Chief Science Officer, arrives. Goose is
present when a Klingon re-supply ship is unloaded. A sudden energy
buildup in the cargo bay causes several explosions. Goose tracks down
the cause of the explosions, deliberately contrived to explode after the
Klingon ship was unloaded. Such a device is usually the providence of
assassins and saboteurs. A search is started for the persons
responsible.

The party in 'the swamp' continues as more and more couples engage in
dancing, led by Canon and Abigail, later joined by first Zaxx and
Ma'kauran and later others. Ma'ka then sees Kelen with a vey special
marine-award and she decides to pay him a visit. Meanwhile Cmdr Canon
is called away and receives word off their departure. The jump into
warp with the whole 'swamp' stargazing while more and more people engage
in small-talk and relations between the 'Galers are improved upon
Stuart and Liam decide to get together for some martial arts training
the next day. Until then Stuart does some research on Qun, their
destination, an Mars-like planet.
Admiral Mattocks forces commander Canon in approving Dr McCuen to leave
the 'Gale cause he is needed at SB-Omega. and tells Canon that, when
they finish this mission, they will receive 12 fourth year-Cadets for a
three month Cadet Cruise. Liam paYS a visit to Mrell, enquiring why
Mrell's shuttle logs were off-line and some secret compartment in this
shuttle. He is thinking about starting an investigation tin tis matter,
but that is prohibited by the captain - Much to the dis-like of the CSO
