After perusing CEO Tyvek's file for a few moments, muttering the
occasional thought snippet, CSO Mercedes McCarter decides she has enough
of an idea of her new colleague to drop in on him. Surprised by the fact
that the computer reported the Chief Engineer's location as being Main
Engineering, she pops in on him and asks for his assistance preparing a
little surprise in case their erstewhile ambushers should come nosing
around again. Tyvek is momentarily worried that the bomb could just as
easily be hot-potatoed back to them, but Mercedes
explains that it would be a programmable bomb; smart enough to not take
out its makers. He then promises to do what he can and Mercedes heads
out to find the next person on her list, OPS Mara Thull.
Mara, she finds, is in the middle of an interesting situation involving
several small ships in such bad condition that they are first mistaken
for debris. When the 'debris' changes course to intercept them, then
fires on them, it becomes obvious they are not yet debris but are
working on the problem. The HAMILTON isn't at significant risk from the
relatively weak weapon's fire, but aCO Miranda Sands and the others
heading planetside for a preliminary mining survey are quite vulnerable.
CSciO Jur Lehron, her lover-not-a-fighter fiance whom she nevertheless
left in charge, is most worried about the shuttle when Mercedes asks if
she should return fire. Is the shuttle exposed? Is it in danger? Has it
been their attackers' actual target?

CMO Electra Threin is making some progress in finding a way to restore
SOXO Cady's rapid ageing, but she isn't there yet. In the meantime, she
doesn't let anyone near Cady.
Admiral Tergin, commander of the Emerald Fleet and former captain of the
Horizon, sends an urgent message to CO James Burke, requesting that
Burke doesn't let the Holy die. If the Holy does die, it will likely
lead to civil war on Tammon, as well as war between the Tammon people
and the Federation.
OPS D'Art Storm and CSciO Abi Seldon have set up a way to 'feed' the
being, but the problem is to get the food inside the forcefield. In the
end, Storm decides to bring it inside himself, using an EVA suit and a
portable field generator to keep the forcefield intact. The feeding is a
success, but before Storm can leave the forcefield, the being strikes at
him. Immediately, it starts integrating itself into his body.
Ensign Oqqre, a Chalna recently assigned to the Horizon, is suffering
from a case of aichmophobia: fear of pointy objects. He has a talk with
CNS Stan the Man.

Preparations continue to be made to house the Usari on board the
station. Portable holoprojectors, to aid in translation, are under
construction. Ens Trifflor oversees the refit of the TASMANIA with a
med-pod. At shift's end he meets Tink in the Rising Star Bar for dinner.
Capt Alyza undergoes Dr Poynton's treatment for her deafness, with
success. The Usari First Speaker and his advisors arrive aboard to
confer.

With less than five hours before the Yeager is due to leave Omega the
departments are shaping up. Draat organizes his engineering teams and
they swing into action. Ya-Nar's OPS team soon find the CEO additional
work in the shape of a malfunctioning backup generator. The Elven CsciO
briefs the Captain on the genetically altered seeds.
The work would have to be carried out without the department heads as
Fischer announces a formal dinner for 1900 hours followed by a staff
meeting which would end less than an hour before departure! Shapel seems
more and more perturbed by the less regimented approach of a starfleet
crew will it be only a matter of time before he himself needs the
services of a 'disorganized unprofessional socialite' CNS?
With the arrival of some of the Cocoons top brass and accompanying
reporters, the meal gets under way. security best be on the ball as
reporters can be worse than Ferrets for getting into areas they are not
supposed to!
