CSciO Jur Lehron has the mess hall completely set up (having finally
decided where the Pin-the-Tail-on-the-Captain will go) and is just
putting the finishing touches on the holodeck haunted house program
when Klingon OPS Mara Thull walks in and is assaulted, as programmed,
by a howling phantom. She drops immediately into a defensive crouch,
dagger in hand, and is about to throw her weapon to skewer the
creature when Jur comes howling over himself to explain. The
"relaxation" party is thus underway.

Captain Cassandra Threin, former CO of the Horizon and currently aboard
to visit her cousin Electra, hears of the six missing crew and goes to
the bridge to offer her assistance to FO Abi Seldon. At the Admiral's
request, she is placed in command until Cmdr. Burke has returned. Seldon
is not really happy with the decision, but he concedes to the wishes of
Fleet Command.
Meanwhile, CMO Electra Threin, Ensign Markham, Burke and his wife Kate
make it to CSO Cady and OPS Storm. Cady is unconscious and with the tip
of the arrow still in his leg, his condition is worsening. While Threin
and Markham are removing the arrow and repairing the wound, a small band
of humans appears from the woods. The mean to take their prey: Cady.

The Yeager embarks on a new mission: to explore the Malandros Nebula.
This nebula stretches across four sectors, Jawiq, E'ertu, Yretsym and
Balorr, and is largely unexplored by the Federation. The Ribbon, an
extra-dimensional phenomenon of unknown properties running along the
south-western border of the nebula, is strictly off-limits. Because of
the huge size of the nebula, they will use the ASSP en route to select
some sites to investigate in detail.
After the staff meeting, captain Rudolf Fischer goes to his office. He
falls asleep while catching up on paperwork and only wakes up when
CSciO
Naalauilos calls him because he is late for the dinner she has prepared
for the senior staff. When he arrives in the senior mess hall, he
gives no explanation for his delay. Naalauilos, CSO Ann Readdy and FCO
Jina Carson wonder if something's wrong with him.
Naalauilos serves the first course, potato leek soup. As they eat their
soup, CNS Donald Phillips brings up a discovery he heard about. In the
Chagrin valley in Ohio, USA, on Earth, about a hundred trees are
growing again of species that went extinct in the 21st century. The
trees all sprouted around six years ago, but no one knows how that
could happen.
Readdy tells how she got her pistons. They were part of a Halloween
costume and were accidentally "grafted" to her by a strange energy beam.
Because the air supply lines are rather vulnerable, Fischers suggests
they look for a way to protect them, perhaps with a coating of some
kind.
Readdy is afraid that would remove the tactile sensation the lines
currently have.
