LtCmdr. 'n Galeda and Professor Arahan decide to create two teams, one to
investigate the stasis field and one to check out the cave where Dr. Naestra
found a control room and where he was subsequently attacked by unknown
forces. 'n Galeda leads a team of nine into the cave, which starts out
naturally but becomes artificial after a couple of metres. They get to the
control room and have a look around. There is Caldonian blood on one of the
walls. The entrance begins to close and they try to escape, but 'n Galeda,
Lt Ned Aster, Ensign Ciate and Ensign Troghar are trapped.
At the same time, the stasis field acts up and shoots energy beams into Camp
Porter, where Arahan and Lt Melody Cuen are just trying to figure out
how to use all of LtCmdr. Porter's equipment. Much of the equipment explodes
and Arahan and Cuen are injured. The explosions set the surrounding bushes
on fire. 'n Galeda and the other three witness the events on a viewscreen in
the cave.
Various systems aboard the Horizon continue to be disrupted by the stasis
field, leaving the ship cut off from the away teams. The Shackleton SSV is
nearly lost in a surge of stasis field activity, but the Horizon manages to
tractor it aboard. A platoon of marines arrives with their state-of-the-art
runabout USS Wild Weasel, commanded by 1Lt Jim Peterson. LtCmdr. Nova'Song
sends them straight to the planet to assist where needed.
Captain Burke and LtCmdr. Einicrox arrive at the cliff where several other
team members were attacked by two flying dinosaurs. Einicrox doesn't want to
shoot the beasts unless absolutely necessary. She inches the EMRV closer to
LtCmdr. Biaret and the injured Lt. Greyhawk, while trying to keep the second
dinosaur away by emitting shrieks as if the EMRV were a dinosaur itself.
The marines land their runabout at Valley Forge, but the entire camp is
gone. An Ensign returning from a patrol has no idea what happened. None of
the away team members answer hails. Peterson sends two squads to the stasis
field and the other two squads to the cliffs. The fire in camp Porter has
spread into the surrounding forest. The marines, led by Gunnery Sergeant
Uganda Zijal, get Arahan, Cuen and the other three members of their team to
safety.
Burke and Einicrox bring Biaret and Greyhawk aboard the EMRV and proceed to
the top of the cliff, where Ensign Rickard was taken into a cave by the
first dinosaur. LtCmdr. Lockhart went in to rescue her, but he hasn't been
heard from since. Communications with Valley Forge are lost and no one
aboard knows why, except that it looks like the entire camp is simply gone.
Lockhart finds a heavily injured Rickard next to her even more heavily
injured captor. He bandages her stomach with his uniform and gets her out of
the cave. Einicrox and Biaret just arrive and the CMO sets out to save
Rickard. The EMRV is attacked by a new group of flying dinosaurs just as
Rickard is lifted aboard. The poor Ensign falls down several metres, dying
on impact.
A metallic humanoid figure appears in the cave next to the stasis field.
Aster fires and it disappears again. 'n Galeda finds a keypad resembling a
sudoku puzzle. They solve the puzzle to open the entrance and head back out,
only to find themselves trapped by the fire from Camp Porter. 'n Galeda
sends out a distress call from as close to the opening as he can get.
The EMRV picks up 'n Galeda's distress call and another one from one of the
marine squads. Einicrox prepares to beam down to 'n Galeda's location, while
Burke and the other on the EMRV continue towards the marines.

Ensign Ben Austin joined the away team in the transporter room.
Captain Canon also insisted that he, too join, much to the team's
dismay.
The team transported to the reception room of the Frian Prime
Minister where they met Trey Gursi. Gursi informed Canon that he
would see him alone, much to the dislike of Syllis and Park.
The conversation between the two leaders turned heated, prompting
the PM to have a heart attack. The Frians blamed Canon for killing
the PM, but Canon ignored the accusation and had the team, PM, Frian
guards - all, beamed to the GALE's sickbay.
Jake Stevens and Doc Patton worked to revive the fallen leader.
Patton discovered that the Prime Minister had been poisoned a few
hours before.
Soon thereafter, Canon and crew learn that they are in the middle of
a Frian civil war, with the `other side' headed by Emperor Kurari
Frikan XVI. Surrounded by Imperial Frian ships, Canon ordered the
NIGHTINGALE to leave the system for the time being. In the meantime,
Syllis and the crew would work to uncover the Frian technology and
political situation while the Frian Prime Minister recovered in
sickbay.
The undercover Commander Maka, appearing like a Frian priestess,
attempted to reach Canon telepathically so she would not blow her
cover.
