"Do you not think the world needs peace as much as you do? Do you not want to give it to the world as much as receive it? For unless you do, you will not receive it." -A Course in Miracles (Text, Chapter 8, "The Gift of Freedom")
There is no question that the Holy Spirit sees our world of non-peace, calls a spade a spade, and offers a solution ... a required course for everyone,
a course in miracles for everyone.
There are also those who think it would be a good idea to require a solution of everyone by force.
Of course the Holy Spirit forgives those who advocate setting up a Department of Peace in government ... for they know not what they do. Advocates of governmental plans and actions cannot see that any such proposed solution is based on force. Like Romans crucifying Jesus, they look to their government and their laws thinking the solution must lie therein, never questioning whether governments and laws are the problem.
We've said in the past that creating a Department of Peace in government is not the solution to war and violence in the world because governments are built on the foundation of force or threat of force. What would a Department of Peace do if some people did not follow it's regulations? Threaten them with confiscation of property? And if they still didn't obey, arrest them? And if they resisted arrest, kill them? Who would be so deluded as to think government departments can cause peace?
Occasionally a government passes a law which is indeed a restatement of the Holy Spirit's guidance, such as "Thou shalt not murder." Pointing to such very occasional restatements of common sense, governments attempt to claim their legitimacy. Yet for every law passed which reflects what we might call "God's law" there are 100,000 laws passed by governments which codify the ego-vested interests of those who wouldn't know God's law if it jumped out in front of them in the form of a glowing angel. The vast, vast majority of government laws are men's laws and governments are primarily mechanisms created so that some men and women can enforce their will on others and justify doing so by calling it "law."
The Holy Spirit gave us A Course in Miracles in order to undo man's government, not perpetuate it and set up new departments.
Nonetheless the Holy Spirit recognizes that when individuals start to be in touch with the call for peace inside themselves, they may go through a transition stage during which they are also very attracted to activism for world peace. They don't yet feel that it is enough to simply surrender totally to opening up spiritually.
There is also a stage when A Course in Miracles Students can be heard making the argument that activism for world peace is unnecessary because the one and only solution has already been set into motion, the Holy Spirit is in charge, and all is well. This of course is an irrefutably true argument.
But such an irrefutably true argument does not preclude a further stage when those who are extremely opened spiritually, substantially enlightened, even then hear the Divine Voice of their spirit saying: "For a moment more, while you still live ever so slightly in the world, we ask of you a surrender to activism to serve our Holy Plan."
Recognizing various stages we go through, the Holy Spirit not only gives everyone a course in miracles, but to a few gives suggestions for activism ... outer works which have a visible or invisible spiritual base and which strengthen the picture of peace and freedom in the world.
One such work suggested by the Holy Spirit is the Freedom Bridge.
The Freedom Bridge is a work guided by the Holy Spirit although it minimizes the use of "God language" and maximizes language of world peace and individual liberty, language which even atheists can feel comfortable using.
There is no organization structure to the Freedom Bridge, no rules and regulations, no taxation, no penalties for nonconformance. It is simply individuals and groups of individuals joining in consciousness for a period of one hour a week to intensely proclaim world peace and individual liberty.
Peace and liberty proclamations scribed from the Holy Spirit are posted on the Freedom Bridge website, as are suggestions for gatherings. Participants copy some of the proclamations each week for use during their sessions.
Whether you join with the Freedom Bridge in session as an individual or in a group of friends and acquaintances, the proclamations of world peace and individual liberty are spoken aloud with authority and conviction for an entire hour, followed by a period of quiet of different length for each participant.
The Freedom Bridge uses two spiritual truths: (1) the world you see will reflect what is in your mind, and (2) minds joined in thought and picture are unbelievably creative when attuned to the Holy Spirit's plan.
We have all used these two truths when proclaiming lesson statements from A Course in Miracles. "I will accept my part in God's plan for salvation." "The peace of God is shining in me now." "My holiness blesses the world."
Now, in response to the desire of so many to somehow be active in the cause of world peace and individual liberty, the Holy Spirit is giving us some further proclamations such as: "I dream of a world of peace and my peaceful mind sees men and women everywhere surrendering to thoughts of peace!"
"Thoughts of peace are working mightily in all minds everywhere. I see it happening and it is so!"
"There is nothing more powerful than an idea whose time has come, and the world is ready for freedom!"
"I see true freedom being established in every land throughout the world."
"My peaceful mind creates peace in the world and peace reigns everywhere."
"Only individual liberty allows for true peace of mind and I see individual liberty being established everywhere."
For fun we can even visualize future neighborhood churches where most of the congregation has been attracted because they love joining in the work to create world peace and individual liberty, but where a handful of spiritually influential members are enlightened brothers who are highly advanced in the experience of inner peace and freedom which A Course in Miracles ultimately produces. Can you imagine Our Lady of Liberty Universal Church? (Just kidding!)
Victor Hugo, the greatest novelist ever, wrote: "There is nothing more powerful than an idea whose time has come." Course in Miracles brothers have come along and added: "There is no time like now!" We know the only factor that determines whether an idea's time has come is the decision of our mind.
So if you say you want world peace, the question is how much do you really, really want it? Sufficiently enough to quit messing with political solutions and begin using a solution which really is effective?
If you give lip service to an ideal of individual liberty, how much do you really, really, really want to see freedom in the world? So deeply that you would become active in a work that really makes it happen?
Some users of Course in Miracles are fond of making statements like: "There is no reason why the world cannot experience peace and individual liberty." No reason other than the fact that the world might disappear if it really opened in that direction! But one thing for sure: if it is going to happen, it's going to happen in your mind.
