1. The existing congregation and one or more congregations from Tikanga Polynesia will aim to set up a joint presence in Otahuhu, as a witness to faith in Jesus Christ as expressed in the Anglican tradition. We shall aim to share joint worship and our social life. We shall seek opportunities to develop and create understanding between the tikanga.

2. We will share the use of the various church properties, and also share responsibility for their care and maintenance.

3. Recognizing the diverse cultural needs of the congregations, each Tikanga will elect its own Vestry for the oversight of its material and spiritual needs. These will be chosen under the provisions of the relevant statutes of the Dioceses of Auckland and Polynesia.

4. For the time being, each Tikanga will keep its own set of accounts. Collections at services for each Tikanga, and any receipts from

special fund raising projects, will be held separately in these accounts, and will be available to provide for obligations within and outside the parish, and for the needs of that Tikanga.

5. There will be a central parish council. This will comprise four members from each constituent Vestry as in 3 above. Two

churchwardens will be appointed for Tikanga Pakeha. Tikanga Polynesia may wish to do the same.

6. The Council will be responsible for matters shared in common by the Tikanga and for ministry to and relationships with the Otahuhu community. It will be a focus for sharing what is happening in each Tikanga and for planning ministry projects. It will also deal with any conflicts. Its decisions must have the assent of representatives of each Vestry and not be by simple majority.

7. The worship service mid-morning on Sunday will normally be mainly in English, as the language shared in common by the

congregations, and it will normally be according to an order from A New Zealand Prayer Book / Karakia Mihinare o Aotearoa.

8. Services at other times will, by common agreement, be arranged for various ethnic needs of our congregations. The needs of Anglican congregations will be our first obligation, but where existing worship in another tradition is displaced, notice of at least three months will be given.

9. While ministry belongs to every baptized Christian, leadership roles within each Tikanga will be decided by the Vestries. Any ministry appointments must receive the assent of both Tikanga.

10. The existing congregation will maintain its link with, and responsibility to, the Diocese of Auckland. The congregations of Tikanga Polynesia will enjoy a similar relationship with the Diocese of Polynesia. Any matters which involve both dioceses, or disputes between the two, must be negotiated by both dioceses.

11. The Tikanga Pakeha Vestry shall be responsible for the Tikanga Pakeha services and the provision of any stipend for Tikanga Pakeha ministry. It shall retain possession of and responsibility for the various properties, including the small hall, most of the small rooms, the Scout Den and car park, the Church Street properties, and cemetery, and shall have primary responsibility for the church. It shall retain

income from these where applicable.

12. Tikanga Polynesia shall make provision for its own services, have the use of the church, one of the small rooms in the hall, the larger hall, and shall be responsible for extension work from St John’s College, connections with the Auckland University, and income from these where applicable.

13. At the inception of the arrangement, there will be a joint service of dedication and thanksgiving.

14. In the first instance, this arrangement is entered into for a period of three years. At the end of that time there is to be a review, before proceeding further.
