Magic-1 clone Page 3 |
For the moment, the clone passed all the tests listed in the machine validation suite. And I was able to get the serial communication to work. Here's a screenshot of the machine booting.![]() Also, I was able to retarget LCC for Magic-1 meaning that I can compile my own program to use on the clone. But for now, programs can only be burnt onto the boot PROM because the IDE controller isn't working. I am working on the IDE controller so that we can load the operating system in the future. I am very satisfied with the progress of the clone at the moment. But I could not be where I am now without Bill Buzbee's help. Thank you very much Bill! ![]() The clone finalized (click the picture for the full resolution version). ![]() ![]() Closeup at the edge connector (click to enlarge). Picture below shows us (me and Aaron) with our supervisor Dr Yap in the center. He is the man who encouraged us to undertake these projects and had been very supportive throughout. The machine that Aaron built (Mark I FORTH Computer) is on top of Magic-1 clone. Click here to read about Aaron's machine ![]() The clone recently made it into EDX (engineering design exhibition) held here every semester. Here's a picture of me with the machine at the exhibition. ![]() ################################################################## Update (Jan 30, 2008) These pictures should've been put up way earlier, I'm two years late. Actually, the operating system was successfully loaded before leaving school. But then the hard disk interface hasn't worked so the OS was downloaded through the serial to the SRAM everytime on startup. This process will take approximately 30 mins if I remember correctly - but Dr. Yap was able to do it faster somehow. Along with that, eliza (the program) and banner ran too. Ok, time for some pictures.. ![]() ![]() Also, in mid 2007, Bill again sent in some parts to help Magic-1 development. They were a proper 8500 chip, preloaded kitty hawk hard disk and a new bootloader. Everything works then with a new version of OS. Pity I don't have any pictures on that..
