Welcome to

the Trader's Guild!

So you've decided to join the Trader's guild, and don't know what to do next? The first thing you need to do, if you haven't already, is find Imaar, our guild leader. Use the DIR command to find the guild, then climb up the stairs and go north, you'll see his office there.

Now that you're an actual card-carrying Trader, the next thing you need to do is think up a background for yourself. This includes, but certainly isn't limited to things like: What were your childhood and your family like? What ever possessed you to become a Trader? What type of Trader do you want to be? Be as creative as you want. Or, you can skip the whole process, no one will force you to roleplay, although it is a large part of what makes DragonRealms fun.

Traders form a diverse guild. There are many different types of traders. You can roleplay yourself as an auctioneer, a moneylender, a stock broker, a furrier, a nomadic merchant, a jeweler, a weapon merchant, or a street peddler. Plus there are countless others that I can't think of right now. We are businessmen, as well as craftsmen. Almost any occupation which involves the creating non-magical items for resale or the moving and handling of large amounts of money falls under the realm of a Trader.

Unfornately, right now the Trader's guild is a very undeveloped guild, almost everyone would agree it is the least developed guild in Elanthia. So it is likely that the type of Trader you want to be is not supported by any actual guild abilities. Before you decide to give up on us, we have a couple of excellent, dedicated GMs in Kaikyu and Erakin, so if you have the patience to stick it out, things will get better. NOTE: Unfornately Erakin has resigned, although we do have two new GMs Godrich and Equity.

So just what abilities DO Trader's have, you ask? Our main ability is that of transporting goods from one guild outpost to another. You can read all about this form of Trading by reading my Beginner's Guide to Contract Trading. Another ability of ours is trading in commodities. The whole commodity system is severely flawed and I advise you avoid it like the plague. It really is a shame though, because commodity trading would be much more fun than contract trading it just worked.

If staring at the south end of a north-bound yak isn't your thing, you can always try learning trading by selling bundles and gem pouches. Traders receive a bonus when buying and selling things, in addition to generally having high charisma (which also helps you get more money). Another thing we have going for us is that only Traders can sell gem pouches all at once. So if you can find enough regular clients to let you sell their bundles of skins and gem pouches for them, you have the potential for a legitimate business.

So now you know all about Traders. Still interested? It is not an easy guild, or even a powerful one. However, it can be a fun guild, and if you have the patience, you'll live to see us become a respectable guild.
