Replacement Gliders

Now, before we go on...

To install:
YOU MUST KNOW HOW TO USE RESEDIT!!!

I suggest you copy the original glider PICTs (3999, 3976, 3974, 3963) into this file in case you wish to re-install them later. They were not included in this file in order to keep the download time low.

1. Open 'Replacement Gliders III' and select the PICT you wish to copy.
2. Choose 'Copy' from the Edit menu.
3. Open Glider PRO or the house file you wish to paste the PICT into.
4. Paste it in and change the ID number to 3999 for the regular glider PICT, and 3976 for the foil glider PICT. This will also work for the second player Glider. Just change the ID numbers to 3974 and 3963, respectively.

Fifteen different flavors of paper...mmmmmmmmm...

Each Replacement Glider file is a collection of five gliders to replace the normal glider in gPRO. To do this, just copy the resource and put it in the same number in gPRO (3999 for the normal glider, 3976 for the foil glider). You can also put them into a house with the same effect. You will need ResEdit to use these files. My Replacement Glider series also won the 2nd Annual Aaron Shakra Award for the art category! B+ from GT

Here is the review from GliderTech:

Paul's Grade: B+

Paper comes in many varieties, right? Why shouldn't gliders? The Replacement Glider Series (RG I, GR II, and RG III) contains a total of 15 gliders that replace the original in Glider PRO. To accomplish this, the user has to muck with the program in ResEdit, which is not always the best idea for beginners. There is not any easy way to change back to the original glider, either. The gliders themself are well crafted, but they begin to appear somewhat repetitive after a while. The Replacement Glider Series is a creditable attempt to give Glider PRO's main character some more pizzazz.

Shawn's Grade: B+

It's a very neat idea: making replacements for various artwork. I think though (as readers of my review of custom art last month will remember) that replacement art should be left to individual houses, not the game itself. However, I did enjoy these sets of gliders; they're pretty neat ideas. Unfortunately, however, They were very simplistic. The author used patterns for all of the gliders, which is fine, but he superimposed all of the patterns on the same place, meaning that when the glider tilts backwords, the pattern stays level to the ground. Also, I think the foiled gliders could have used more work, but overall, I liked several of them and they are fun and simple changes anyone can make to the game.

Note: in response to Shawn's point of the patterns being superimposed the same way, that is all the graphics program I used at the time was capable of. It would have been a nightmare to try to get the patterns to tilt along with the glider. I agree that it looks a little simplistic, but that's the best I could do with the tools I had.
