Three interesting cases

1. A Petroleum case  -  Dr. Vaisnho Dass Kashyap

Robin Chatterjee, a Bengali Youth, who was swimming in a tank with handcuffs to break the world endurance record of swimming, began to suffer from pain in the stomach with nausea after he was in water for thirty-six hours. All sorts of allopathic and vedic medicines were tried without any relief. At last I was consulted. His symptoms when repertorized pointed to Petroleum. A dose of Petroleum 30 was given and it relieved his trouble miraculously.

A few days later, Robin met me on the road when he came exclaiming "Oh, Doctor, your tiny little pills saved me, and enabled me to break the record." His expression of deep gratitude to the science was unique.

I think his symptoms were due to the grease that his body was besmeared with.

2. A pleasant cure  -  C. V. P.

C.H.S. was wounded in the last war and invalided home in 1916.

For a period of three years he was treated by several hospitals in succession with the object of increasing the use of his left arm, the muscles of which had been badly shattered by shrapnel.

Receiving no benefit, a specialist appointed by the Pension authorities advised an operation, but in response to a precise question would give no definite promise of improvement.

By refusing to risk an unsuccessful operation the patient lost a portion of his pension.

A few weeks ago, when telling me of all this, C.H.S. mentioned that besides being unable to use his hand to any extent, the whole arm was always cold. As he talked of it a certain drug came vividly to my mind. Upon reaching home after business that day I turned up Boericke and there, as I expected, were the symptoms of this man as described by him and as suffered for many years past.

Casually I asked him next day to take three powders at twelve hour intervals. Thirty-six hours later he came to me and said "I feel all of a glow - my arm is quite warm!" Two days after that he told me that it was a funny thing but he found himself using his left hand. On two occasions since then he has voluntarily assured me that the result has been fully maintained.

My first contact with this remedy was five years ago in camp - with a homeopathic doctor - a good friend of mine who produced a powder which quickly nullified the effect of a wasp sting; the name of that remedy - Ledum and the potency for my soldier friend - 200.

3. A Pulsatilla case -   V. M. Johnson

The Pulsatilla patient is glad, mad, and sad, all moods within a few minutes. Oh! How earnestly they can cry and how mad and sad they become! They often have some good excuse for all these moods. Usually of a mild, yielding disposition; seldom thirsty; want the open air; cannot eat fats, crave sweets but the stomach is disordered from over-indulgence. Coryza and loss of smell; yellowish discharge from nose. Wandering pains; symptoms always changing.

The most typical case we ever heard of was a girl about nine years of age, face freckled and pale, hair yellow and tawny, thin in flesh. She had no mother, and her father could be with her only part of the time, but always gave her a "nickel" with which she bought candy or some sweets. Her brothers were always teasing her. Her greatest amusement was to lean out of the open window and "sass" the passers-by. Her stools always changed in character.

My mother took charge of her for six weeks; the child was given a pleasant room and surroundings; no scolding nor restraint except what was absolutely necessary. She never spoke of going home, yet how she did cry! My mother told her that as she did not like to see her cry, it was best that she go to her own room where she might cry all she wanted to. We called that her bawlroom; she soon selected a wailing wall and there she would cry until she got tired of it.

She was given Pulsatilla, and made a rapid and permanent recovery. She is now one of the very finest women; none of her childhood mental infirmities have since troubled her.

Children can usually be corrected in a short time; adults can also be cured, but it takes longer. In either case, correct homoeopathic prescribing does work wonders.
